Sevhage Literary and Development initiative; a subset of Sevhage Publishers, in conjunction with Movement Against Fulani Occupation (MAFO) put together a candle light procession and reading in honour of the kidnapped and slain indigenes of Agatu and Buruku communities in Benue state.

The sober event took place on the evening of March 23 at George Akume Hall, Local Government Service Commission, Makurdi.A number of those affected by the attacks, including Kator Hule-Ingya and Sam Baki read poems and tributes. Benue based poet, Bash Amuneni, also lost his grandmum in the recent attacks. She was first kidnapped and later found dead.

In recent years attacks on different communities in Benue state have left homesteads deserted and made refugees of indigenes who flee to Makurdi and other neighbouring towns for safety.

The conveners of the event also lit candles for victims of other violent attacks across the country.

Oh! I pity for our sycophantic and conscienceless president and leaders of Nigeria and I weep for my fellow Nigerians. We are yet to have a people's president. Imagine what happened in Agatu compared to what happened in Brussel Airport in Belgium and the whole nation of Belgium including the whole of Europe and US stood up for days now showing fraternal hood and solidarity to their people. Here in Nigeria, Your president doesn't care, won't even say a word for days now, but enjoying his trips from country to country. Even security agents and their commanders don't give a hoot. It is as if life of a Nigerian is worth less down a tissue paper.

So what is the the essence of the national anthem we sing? "arise o compatriot, Nigeria's call obey, to serve our fatherland....."
All but a scam.

We need responsible leaders in Nigeria. Leaders that will respond to the needs of the people.
