Cost Of Religious Holidays Vs. Cost Of Industrial Action In Nigeria by Chukazu: 11:09am On Mar 25, 2016
why do we entertain so many unnecessary holidays all in the name of religion without asking the economic implications of such?

in 2012, the then minister of finance reportedly stated that the nation lost an estimated 300billion to industrial action as a result of fuel subsidy removal protest...that was a strike that lasted for just six working days.

now juxtapose that with the amount of wasted hours lost during holidays all in the name of religious festivities like GOOD FRIDAY, EASTHER MONDAY,CHRISTMAS, BOXING DAY AND NEW YEAR for Christians alone
so if we could lose 300billion for a six days strike one can only imagine the amount we lose every other years for ten days religious holidays, when you add the Muslims' share to the equation

now industrial actions are even better in the sense that you don't usually experience a complete halt in the economy, because in most cases the private sector usually carry on with its business
but with holidays, it's usually the opposite as everything tends to grind to a halt.

every little thing calls for holiday in Nigeria and that makes look very lazy as a people.

the same goes to Lagos state government that ignorantly keeps people away from business all in the name of "environmental sanitation" every Thursday, I mean who does that in this age and time
think of the number of hours per week been wasted and we still complain why our economy is not growing.

We seriously need a re-think as a country
