An EgyptAir airliner, flying from Alexandria to Cairo, has been hijacked and forced to divert to Larnaca airport on the south coast of Cyprus.

The plane, an Airbus A320, with 55 passengers and seven crew, was taken over by a hijacker who said he was wearing an explosives belt. Some passengers were seen leaving the plane. Negotiations are under way but no demands have been made by those in control of the plane, reports say.
