The Oyo State Government has thrown out tenants at the popular Agbowo Shopping complex, Opposite the University of Ibadan main gate displacing hundreds of tenants at the business premises. Although the state government, through the Oyo state housing corporation says its action is to enable it commence the renovation of the complex, tenants believe the plan is to displace them and replace them with politicians and their relatives because the same government has complained about lack of fund to carry out any renovation for now. Meanwhile my visit to the complex shows heavily armed security men both police and Civil defense why fences were molded to block all gates leading to the complex to prevent movement in and out of the complex. According to many tenants, there is pending suit in court against the eviction of the tenants but the state government refused to wait for the decision of the court by going ahead to forceful eject the tenants. The tenants therefore call for the intervention of well meaning Nigerians especially the state governor for the state housing corporation to respect the rule of law.

If the state government is serious about renovating, I think it's long overdue. Agbowo shopping complex needs serious government intervention.

That's the problem. There is no evidence that they are ready to renovate the complex and if they leave the place locked without tenants the place would become bushy and a hideout for criminals
