CEDESER Calls For More Support For Buhari’s Ant-corruption Crusade by Adesinaayo: 3:47pm On Mar 31, 2016
In the face of the emerging revelations of alleged embezzlements and misappropriations of funds by public office holders in the previous administrations, a non-governmental organisation, Centre for Democracy and Socio Economy Rights (CEDESER) has called on every Nigerian not to relent in giving maximum support to the President Buhari-led administration in recovering all funds misappropriated and taken by private individuals for personal use.
Speaking on current national issues, the Executive DirectorA of the organisation, Michael Popoola Ajayi, pleaded with Nigerians to put aside their political affiliations and tribal sentiments to join hands with the current administration in its current path to economy recovery.
According to him, relying on the emerging facts from the nation’s anti-corruption agency, EFCC, as well as the office of the Auditor-General of the federation, some individuals have definitely plunged the nation into financial doldrums.
“In the current economic realities, it is necessary as good citizens of Nigeria that we should shelve our political and tribal inclinations to rally round the current government in ensuring that sanity is brought back to our economic management and fiscal policy”. He stated.
Speaking further, the political activist recalled that, at present, it is obvious that the oil revenue cannot adequately cater for the nation’s enormous financial obligations. Therefore, aside other economic measures being explored by the governments at all levels, it is also sacrosanct to put all hands on deck to ensure that every kobo misappropriated, embezzled or not adequately accounted for in the previous administrations is recovered.
“We should not only considered the alarming amounts of money involved which runs into billions of dollars but also take into cognisance, the fact that the obvious financial recklessness of some individuals in the previous administrations have ostensibly added to the nation’s current financial degradation. Therefore, the general public we do the nation so much good if they continue to encourage the present government in face of any persecution not to relent on its efforts to get all the money back to government coffers”. He said.
CEDESER, a non-for-profit organisation is established to mobilise public opinion towards building and sustenance of democratic values and culture in the country. This is by providing independent platform to initiate and support ideas, opinions and strategies that will enhance good and genuine governance, strengthening democratic institutions and encourage equal access to state resources.
