The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015 election in Cross River State, Mr Odey Ochicha has condemned in strong terms the free killing of innocent Nigerians over the course the re-run elections in River state.
Ochicha who was reacting to news making rounds that so many people were feared dead in the re-run election warned desperate politicians to stop pushing innocent Nigerians to sacrifice their lives for their selfish political interests.
The APC chieftain described the situation in Rivers as "uncivilized" way of playing politics while noting that the state government has failed in it primary responsibility of protecting lives and properties.
While calling on Rivers people and the federal government to hold the state governor Nysom Wike responsible for the upsurge of crime rate in the state, he slammed the governor for incessantly making unguarded statement that is not befitting of a governor and capable of generating violence.
According to him, "The River State issue is now a national problem. The governor should be held responsible for whatever thing that is happening there.
"Imagine a sitting governor on a live TV program ordering that a sitting Minister be manhandled if he is seen during the election. This is the height of irresponsibility and uncivilized way of playing politics. It shows clearly how desperate he is".
Speaking about the recent appointment of Dr. Dakuku Peterside as the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) Ochicha said that contrary to insinuations that he was a square peck in a round hole, it was well deserving and the best for the agency at this critical time of the nation's economy.
He explained that the Honourable Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi needs the experience of someone like Dakuku to sustain his drive to restructuring the maritime sector in the country.
"Must times I wonder whether some people talk before they think. With the innovations the Honourable Minister of Transport has brought to the ministry within just few months, he needs a charismatic leader like Dakuku to champion the drive in the maritime sector.
"Amaechi creativity, broad mindedness and strategic insight for the ministry would have suffered if a man of integrity and result-oriented like Dakuku would have been ignored to carry out the minister's drive in the sector. So I want to congratulate him for the appointment and also the minister for the transformation he has so far brought to the ministry", he said.
