The London club has confirmed Antonio Conte as new manager after EURO 2016. Conte is just another elite name in the Barlays Premier League for the next season alongside with Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and possibly Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager.
The 46 years old Italian signed a three year contract, but wants to keep his focus on Italian national team. In his brief statement he told he’s very excited about working at Chelsea Football Club, but his minds are currently focused on EURO 2016.
Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck added: “Antonio Conte has a record of consistent success in his career as a manager and as a player. We look forward to welcoming him to Stamford Bridge and are confident he will find all he needs to maintain that high standard of achievement.”
Roman Abramovic has been looking for Mourinho’s successor and even though names like Diego Simeone, Jorge Sampaoli and Massimiliano Allegri were mentioned, Abramovic decided for Conte, who proved his fearlessness when he took over Juventus when nobody else didn’t want to and brought the Old Lady back on winning tracks.
Guus Hiddink managed to revive Chelsea players after Mourinho’s sacking, but it was known from the beginning that the Dutchman is only a temporary solution. Although Chelsea have been playing better, they are still miles away from the top of the table. The Blues are currently sitting in the tenth place and it is likely they will not participate in the Champions League or the Europa League in the next season. It could be a good thing for Conte that he will have one season just to devote to English football, especially because British press expects exodus of Chelsea players in the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid and PSG are massively interested in Eden Hazard, Simeone wants to return Diego Costa to Atletico, Oscar is wanted by the half of Europe, while Chelsea officials are not too satisfied with Pedro’s impact since his arrival from Barcelona. Also, Terry’s, Pato’s and Falcao’s contracts are coming to an end. Allegedly, Conte’s biggest wishes are Pogba, Bonucci, Higuain and Cavani so we can expect busy summer at Chelsea.
Antonio Conte was a great player, he is on the best way to become a great manager. Chelsea are in the crisis at the moment, but that will pass and in the next season they certainly will be a prime candidates for the top of the table, especially if they would be relieved of European duties. Their new manager was known as a big worker as both the player and manager so Chelsea fans might expect a bright future for their club.
