GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by Scholes007(m): 11:02pm On Apr 04, 2016
This is not a matter of APC or PDP neither is a matter of buhari or jonathan, but the progress of our nation. Funding a bridge like 2NB involves huge capital investment. Sourcing and funding such investment can be done by
i. The state(country) alone if they have the capital
ii. Through ppp(private public partnership) scheme
iii. And Through loan.
Gej lead administration adopted the second which is ppp, it takes a long time and some bureaucratic bottleneck to accomplish that. In ppp the govt and private sector has some quota they have to invest and in this case FG is committed to contribute 28% and private investors 72% under a 25 years concession. A huge amount of 10billion was committee by GEJ administration, meaning that GEJ was the only one that started the actual work on the bridge hence history of the bridge cannot be written without him.

This thread is to put records straight about the second niger bridge. I will use question and answer method to do this. I will be asking and and answering 10 question on it. Other peoples view/opinion is highly accepted.
1 Has real work started on second niger bridge? the answer is yes.
2. When did they start the project? The project preliminary studies was started in the early quarter of 2013. And the on site construction started on may 2015
3. Who was the president that commenced it? former president; Goodluck Ebele Jonathan commenced the project. His administration committed #18.3 billion out of the #30 billion to be invested by the FG. 10 billion was disbursed.

4 Did his administration complete it? No.
5. Why? because he couldn't win his second term bid. He lost to the sitting president M. Buhari.
6. Did buhari Abandon the project? No he didn't.
7. Why is there out cry? it is Because of the very slow pace of work on the site.
8. What brought about the slow pace of work? Economic down turn. The project cost was done when naira(nigerian local currency) was #154/dollar and there was a sharp depreciation on naira. Since the project is a ppp and will mostly be excuted on naira there is need for renegotiation on the cost and concession of the project.
9 Does that mean the project will be stopped? that depends on the renewed agreement between the FG and the private investors.
10 what should we do ? wait, observe and contribute positively towards the project.

OAFMods:Am sorry sir i did not say it is 10% completed. Gej didn't not scam anyone including you, you should tell who so ever that is telling you that to stop it. It is doing more harm than go. I am proudly an Igbo not Ipob thank you.

Nice Job OP, I watched how shameless zombies were trying desperately to appropriate a bonafide Jonathan's project as illiterate bubu's. As a matter of fact, early works started in 2013 and ended January 2016; Julius Berger is waiting for financial closure to commence the main work.

chudionu58:So second naija bridge is three years old in construction E be like say it will then take 50 years to complete it
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by arresa: 5:04am On Apr 05, 2016
1. Please tell why GEJ didn't approve the entire FG funds for the project like he did for projects in the North amd SW and why he settled for PPP.
2. PPP means instead of the FG paying for the bridge, the end users in the SE are going to pay for the bridge for 25 years out o their own pocket.
3. At N117 billion, the cost was grossly inflated to allow JB to rake in serious profits for 25 years at the expense of the end users in the SE.
4. Lekki Ikpyi bridge is the best and the most sophisticated bridge in Nigeria and it cost only N29 billion.
5. Bottom line, GEJ going the PDP route is not doing you any favor, he basically sold you off to JB for 25 years of toll payments. It means you are going to pay out of your pocket for that bridge.
If GEJ rewarding his pillar of support aka the SE with 25 years toll payment on what they should enjoy free without paying out of their own pocket just like the other regions with fully FG funded projects, them enjoy the scam and erect a statue fo GEJ to worship forever...
Why you people let hate, tribalism and ignorance cloud your judgement is still a misery..

arresa:The project is a very massive & capital intensive project, the FG couldn't take on it alone hence settled down on ppp.
2. PPP means instead of the FG paying for the bridge, the end users in the SE are going to pay for the bridge for 25 years out o their own pocket.Yes, it means that a certain concession will be granted to the private investor to recover the input. It will apply to all citizens ply the road. note: it's not only SE that use the bridge, it service all nigerian mostly the SE, SS & some part of middle belt.
At N117 billion, the cost was grossly inflated to allow JB to rake in serious profits for 25 years at the expense of the end users in the SE.For a grand project like that? No no it is not, you can read more about similar bridges and their cost.
4. Lekki Ikpyi bridge is the best and the most sophisticated bridge in Nigeria and it cost only N29 billion.lekki bridge is on where near that bridge. In lenght, width, facillities etc there is no comparism
5. Bottom line, GEJ going the PDP route is not doing you any favor, he basically sold you off to JB for 25 years of toll payments. It means you are going to pay out of your pocket for that bridge.nigerian is not the only place such procedure is adopted. Concession is never a bad thing as you paint it.
If GEJ rewarding his pillar of support aka the SE with 25 years toll payment on what they should enjoy free without paying out of their own pocket just like the other regions with fully FG funded projects, them enjoy the scam and erect a statue fo GEJ to worship forever...sorry i did not mention tribe i see no reason shouting tribalism up and down.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by fulanimafia: 7:40am On Apr 05, 2016
Making the Ibos pay for their own bridge, while the SW enjoys the 3rd mainland bridge and other FG projects for free, and the North enjoys the Jebba bridge and other FG projects for free, is preposterous.
They claim they hate injustice, but hail GEJ for this height of injustice. How gullible and emotional can a people be.
The fact remains that if that bridge will be completed in the next 8 years, it will be completed and commissioned by President Buhari.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by chudionu58(f): 7:52am On Apr 05, 2016
kuuljay:Please, what has being going on are the preliminary works 1,2&3 and also reaching financial closure have being very challenging (since late 2014) owing to our horrible exchange factor. Got it?
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by obailala(m): 7:59am On Apr 05, 2016
N117bn or the reviewed cost of N130 may be high, but it isnt beyond what the FG can do, especially for a very important bridge that the SE has been asking for for decades. With the kind of support GEJ got from the SE, if we must be honest with ourselves, the decision to toll this bridge was a callous attempt at using and dumping the SE because he knew the zone was going to support him anyway. Even the Lokoja-Oweto bridge isn't tolled.
Blame me for being partisan about this or not, but the fact remains that, deep in my heart, I cant give the glory of this bridge to a GEJ who contributed N10bn, neither can I give it to Buhari whose govt would contribute N20bn; the glory for this project when completed goes to the southeasterners who would collectively contribute N100bn (and lots more as 'accrued interests' for 25years) from their pockets for this project.
But just keep watch till 2018 (when the bridge would eventually be completed) and you would be shocked at the comments from users of the bridge, who would protest, blame and insult Buhari for hating the SE by introducing the first toll gate in Nigeria on a simple bridge because the bridge is used 90% by Igbos. And while this blame would be heaped on Buhari, not a single blame would go to GEJ who would be hailed as the saintly initiator of the project while Buhari/Fashola would be roasted for introducing the tolls. I would bookmark this my very comment for reference.

fulanimafia:Kindly visit any nomadic school nearby to cure your manifest illiteracy. Let me tell you that no government will build two bridges 'close' to each other without tolling one! All those bridges you mentioned are they the variants of their firsts? So why will government toll them?
2. Did Jonathan or Julius Berger ever told you of any plan to pull down the existing Niger bridge to build the second one?
3. What then stops commuters from using the old bridge? if they can't pay for the new one??
4. Are you telling me that if the 4th mainland bridge is to be built, it will most likely not be tolled?
A.b.oki take time oooh!

10 % indeed The op is talking about d picture PDP showed them during election not d real project.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by fulanimafia: 8:21am On Apr 05, 2016
You're not making sense and just spewing hot nyamiri air, typical. Some of you should just focus on your 'makate' instead of embarrassing yourselves through wanton displays of crass ignorance.
On what basis did you reach your fraudulent conclusion that no government would build two proximate bridges without tolling one? The only logical reason for tolls is to generate revenue, so if the government takes full responsibility for building the second bridge, of what essence is the toll except if the government just wants to exploit the poor citizens? Or does the proximity of the second bridge make it more expensive to build or maintain? Smh.
...and yes, there was an old Jebba bridge and the newer one was not tolled.
Carry your typical criminal fraudulent way of reasoning away from here, you're obviously trying to justify your gullibility for Jonathan.

You took this from my mouth........
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by chudionu58(f): 9:45am On Apr 05, 2016
fulanimafia:As expected your write up lacks substance. How can you talk of exploitation when the old bridge is still there for use? Can you see how shallow you are? May we know if the two bridges are currently in use in Jebba? The second jebba bridge was built in 1989 and costs were considerably lower then; can that be compared to this modern democratic dispensation where legislative appropriation is very competitive, owing to soo much demands per time?? So, I repeat, any new bridge running concurrently with a functional old one.... Will be tolled!
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by obailala(m): 10:14am On Apr 05, 2016
chudionu58:Bro, let us be honest with ourselves, the decision to toll the 2nd Niger bridge was simply borne out of an 'exploitative' desire for convenience. It's like a case of a father serving his family meals without meat because he believes they would 'understand,' meanwhile this same man declares feasts for others.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by chudionu58(f): 10:17am On Apr 05, 2016
obailala:I've not seen a reason to believe such line of thought. Since the old bridge is permanently functional.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by obailala(m): 10:24am On Apr 05, 2016
chudionu58:Bro this is not the first time we are having 2 bridges cross a single river. I strongly believe the reason the planned bridge was tolled was just for financial convenience, GEJ knew he would still be supported any day, any time no matter what he did, so he simply exploited this convenient route.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by chudionu58(f): 10:50am On Apr 05, 2016
obailala:Then what is the 'man of integrity' waiting for to remodel it's scope of work, specifications and it's corresponding costs!
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by OrlandoOwoh(m): 10:55am On Apr 05, 2016
arresa:He forgot to add when GEJ will be going on exile, as he said, for no being able to complete the bridge.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by obailala(m): 10:57am On Apr 05, 2016
chudionu58:Have you ever seen a person whom honey is put in his mouth and then he spits it out?... At a cash crunch period like this, you expect the FG to willingly take more financial responsibility even when the potential commuters on this route are not complaining? This has nothing to do with integrity bro, it's all about conscience. And if those directly affected aren't complaining, kindly tell me why 'man of integrity' should?
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by chudionu58(f): 11:23am On Apr 05, 2016
obailala:There you have it! Buhari is readily provided a soft landing while Jonathan must be seen as an unconscionable thief! Let's stop these back and forth, this is the prime reason why Nigeria will hardly work!
2.How can Easterners complain too much since they have a zero cost cum permanent alternative.?
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by valslove8715(f): 11:40am On Apr 05, 2016
Y are u shooting urself in the leg? when the contract was awarded u know the xchang rate compare to what we have now, so how could the then president predicted today economy situation by adopting the PPP method. just face it ur leaders are nothing but swines.
Re: GEJ And The Second Niger Bridge by obailala(m): 11:42am On Apr 05, 2016
chudionu58:The point I'm trying to make is simple, our leaders, irrespective of party, tribe, region or religion will always want to take the easy way out. GEJ took the easy way out by imposing the tolls, I wouldn't expect Buhari not to hide in the shadows and do same (especially since the people involved didn't complain). If you were in Buhari's shoes, I'm sure you would also take this easy way out.
