Alhaji Tanimu Yakubu, a former economic adviser of late president Umaru Musa Yar’adua, has narrated how he was attacked by assailants in Kaduna state.

Daily Trust reports that the assailants pounced on Yakubu as he was leaving a friend’s house on Galadima Street, on Saturday, April 2.

The incident happened at a time when there are rising cases of kidnap for ransom in the state as well as on the Kaduna Abuja highway.

Recently, a Nigerian army colonel and a cleric were abducted and later found dead in the bushes on the outskirts of Kaduna.

However, Yakubu managed to escape abduction but sustained injuries on his head and nose.

When journalists visited him on Monday, April 4, at his residence, he had a bandage round his head to stop the flow of blood and a plaster across his nose.

The former aide said that the assailants accosted him and one of them pressed a metal object against his body. Then he was ordered to get into his (Yakubu’s) car which was parked nearby. However, he decided to move in the opposite direction, and when one of the assailants noticed that, he started hitting his victim with the metal object.

Yakubu noted that he could not get help from people on the street because they decided to flee the scene.

It was then he noticed that blood was gushing from his head. Yakubu said that he was later picked up by some people who rushed him to the hospital.

As the injury on his head did not penetrate, he received medical care and was allowed to go home that day.

Speaking about the incident, the former economic likened the current situation to what happened immediately after the civil war when those that handled arms melted into the civilian population without adequate reorientation. He noted that this led to serious security crises and the advent of armed robbery in the country.

According to Yakubu, Nigeria needs to work out strategies that will check such occurrences in the present circumstance.

Meanwhile, the inspector general of police, Solomon Arase, has ordered the relocation of the assistant inspector general of police in charge of zone 7, Ballah Nasarawa, to Kaduna due to the rising insecurity in the state.
