The Way Forward on the Matter of Economy

Borrowing a leaf from the “common sense” Senator, we really need to look at the way forward and not focus on the blame game. It is time to stop blaming every politician we have ever had and the CBN Governor. There are things we can do considering the shift in focus from the oil sector.
Lecturers
The amount of lecturers, especially Ph. D. holders in this country should make for great change in Nigeria. The academia of this country needs to take personal research seriously. Focus should be put into sensitive fields like agriculture and medicine.
Students need to be encouraged to express themselves and explore broader horizons to make this country better and who better to do this if not the educators?
Individuals
The oil sector that seemed to be the peak to aspire to is no longer in that “revered” category, we need to find alternative jobs and businesses.
We really have got to start thinking out of the box when it comes to business ideas. What are those things we need and enjoy in this country? Think and plan for that one product that once used, everyone simply cannot live without.
I think of my Samsung S5 phone and a few of the apps that come with it that I can’t imagine living without now. There are peculiar needs to Africans as well as untapped needs the whole world has.
Once you find that idea then you are on a roll and of course you create jobs for people.
The Government
Much as we are not “blaming” the government, there are ways it can make birthing these ideas easier. The various laws on patenting and copyright need to be brought up to world standards and should be enforced.
Steps need to be taken to encourage startups in the country. There are a few initiatives (mostly private) but the government needs to enable startups grow by partnering in one way or another.
Generally, we need to think: producing more than importing; processing more than just growing; actions more than just ideas…
