Dirty Job by Seyibabalola(m): 12:41pm On Apr 09, 2016
Dirty Job

I critically looked into the account of Moses smitting the rock in the wilderness to bring out water for the thirsty and dying children of Israel. Yes, we have been taught by many preachers that Moses committed the sin of unbelief by smitting the rock twice, instead of once, or probably by smitting the rock with anger. No doubt, he committed unbelief. But the challenge many of us have here is that we don't know what surrounded his unbelief. I mean, we do not actually know what Moses did not believe in which made him to do a dirty job by hitting the rock twice or probably by hitting the rock with anger.
MOSES ACTUALLY NEVER BELIEVED THAT WATER WAS MEANT TO COME FROM THE ROCK IN THE WILDERNESS. HE DIDN'T BELIEVE IN THE ROCK AS THE NORMAL SOURCE OF SOLUTION TO THIRST. The children of Israel had been brought to a place where there was no seed, figs, vines, pomegranates, and even water to drink. They started complaining and blaming Moses for bringing them into this wilderness. While they were still talking, shouting, complaining and lamenting, the Rock which had solutions to their problem was right there before their eyes. But none of them could figure that out or ever imagine that. Even after God had told Moses to take his rod and smite the Rock to give out water, he still did not believe. Look at this, "And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?"-Num.20:30. If he had believed that no other source of water God had in mind for them in the wilderness, except the Rock, he would have not made that statement. If he had believed that the rock was the normal solution to their thirst, he wouldn't have made that statement and then he would not have smitten the rock twice or with anger. Listen, in your difficult times, there is a Rock waiting for you. It may not look like what you have been expecting, but it has been prepared for you long ago to provide all your needs. The solutions to our challenges most times don't look like what we have pictured in our minds. But if only you can believe and act on what God told you, you will have your heart desires.
There was no other way the Israelites were meant to or could have been fed with water in the wilderness, except the Rock (Jesus - John 7:38 "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water"wink. But the unbelief of Moses in a rock (common stone) being the prepared and normal ( abnormal in Moses's perception) source of solution to the thirst of the people made him to do a dirty job by hitting the rock twice or probably with anger. "....must we fetch you water out of this rock?"-Num.20:10. This statement shows that Moses did not believe the Rock to be the normal source of the dearly needed solution. The consequence of his unbelief and dirty job was that he did not enter the promise land.
Your unbelief will make you do a dirty job. Doing a dirty job is doing the right thing with a wrong perception or doing the right thing in the wrong way or doing what you are not called to do. Uzzah did a dirty job by holding the ark of God with his hands and was smitten to death. Nadab and Abihu, the two sons of Aaron, did a dirty job by offering a strange fire to God and they were instantly consumed by fire.
Is it that job that doesn't look like it? Is it that young man or lady that does not look like it? Is it that step that doesn't look like the solution? If it doesn't look like it but you have heard God that it is, believe it. That is your rock, the answer to your needs.
