The Senate leader, Ali Ndume, has called on the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) senators not to play God.
He noted that God gave power to Bukola Saraki and He
alone can remove the Senate president, if he is ever
convicted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Vanguard reports that Ndume made a statement
reacting to the position of some PDP senators that the
opposition would produce Saraki’s successor if he is
removed.
“PDP should not play God. It is God that gave power to
Senate president Saraki and it is only God that can take it
from him.
“Only God will know who will take it from him, not even a
party, not even the PDP can do that, God knows who will
take it from him, not PDP,” he said.

On March 28, the PDP senators held a meeting where
they perfected their plan to produce the replacement for
the current Senate president should he be removed by
the CCT.
A source at the meeting claimed that some people were
of the opinion that the current deputy Senate president,
Ike Ekweremadu, should resign alongside Saraki as a
sacrifice while an APC senator from the North-Central
would emerge as the deputy.
Commenting on the development, Senator Peter
Nwaboshihe, the chairman of the Senate Committee on
Niger Delta Affairs, expressed assurance that the PDP
would produce the next Senate president.
“Should the incumbent, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, is
forced to vacate the office, we have perfected necessary
arrangements to take over the upper chamber,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Strategic Group has criticized
the APC for failing to react to threats by the opposition
party to take over the leadership of the Senate.

Calling for resignation base on "hardship" not corruption. It is this corruption that plunge us to this hardship. Yester years of oil boom, could no be harnessed to build infrastructure and diversify our economy. How would justify the jumbo pay taken home by our political class. These are two different issues.

This was the same excess confidence that made the leadership of the APC lose sight of the role the PDP could play in the scheme of things at the red chamber until Saraki was 'elected'. The current situation is a zero sum game, any wrong move by the APC would cede that seat to the PDP.
