"Millions of children may lose access to life-saving vaccines if Nigeria doesn’t come up with a way to pay a vaccine debt that could rise to N40 billion by 2020, public health experts have said"

EFCC it is time to plough back some of the recovered looted funds from Dasuki & CO to a CBN dedicated account to fund projects like this, meanwhile continue drilling Dasuki to vomit more dollars

Let every parent go and source for vaccine for their brood ..but I thought childhood killer disease vaccination was free so how come prof is looking for 210 billion naira

At Lifeline hospital, vaccines for the first 2 months of life go for N51,000, next set is N30,000. Rotavirus (a single injection) is N9,000 upwards. Measles and another one is N10,000.

And all those prices are for vaccines below the age of 1.

No-one in govt has ever taken Healthcare serious in this country and the average medical person has been hardened enough to chase only profits like the rest of the average Nigerian does. So when we should invested billions into Healthcare and Education, we looked the other way whilst govt officials looted us.

People queue up for hours for free vaccines at the local government clinic because they cannot afford it. The minute you stop it being free, serious population control by way of death in children will occur.

Is that what you want?

My question is who are we paying to, foreign or domestic? It seems to be foreign with all the dollars mentioned. So with all the medical people in this country we cannot manufacture any vaccine. I read somewhere that technology cannot be transferred but, it could be stolen. Who transferred it to Indians or other Asian Tigers. Men we got to wake up.

the solution is to produce these vaccines locally instead of shouting debt this or that Dr Ben Anyene, chairman of the National

Nigeria fast becoming a disaster zone, everything from water, petrol , eletricity and vaccine is scarce .to me this can only happen in Iraq , syria etc the red cross even assist them there. But one Adolf Hitler replica purporting to be a Nigeria president is clueless about the pending disaster.

But why do people have children they cannot fend for for christ sake? Why are people so stupid. In a way it will bring about population reduction, something Nigeria urgently needs.

Parents already pay for most and cannot afford to pay for Rotavirus and Pneumoccocal. Private hospital vaccine bill easily hits N51,000 for a session. And to leave your child to attend school with an unvaccinated child is a gun waiting up to off. Even the U.S. has passed laws insisting in vaccination before schooling. And Nigeria could have been able to afford this trust fund to save money for decades of not for greed from government to Ministers of Health and Commisioners to Chief Medical Directors to even Nurses.

Why are people still stupidly fighting for this or that politician?

Greed
that is our greatest umdoing in this country
U might try to hide it with fancy names like sharpness
Or smartness but that is the bane of the average nigerian. Its in each and every one of u. s

I thought we've eradicated polio and our brothers up north don't want the vaccine either since it is widely perceived it makes them sterile.

In my count it's not up to millions anymore o! Vaccination is a continuous process in Nigeria since they keep painting kids' index fingers monthly probably administering the same strain over and over again. Bubu needs it set.

They buy it from the Nigerian govt. Some people don't trust the handling of vaccines by some of our very careless Nigerian-mentality medical staff (for example during the Ebola crisis, as they were shutting down that hospital in Lagos Island, some of the nursing staff at GH Lagos Island were more concerned by the Ileya rice shared annually by LASG. And they were in close proximity to the hospital which treated the patient). Vaccines have to be stored cold until the time of delivery and if one knows that even in LUTH they have electricity issues, one may be too scared to trust govt hospitals. So private buys and handles fewer patients and charges exorbitantly. And each state has different policies for which vaccine to give: LASG does not give Rotavirus but some states in the East do.

@tensazangetsu, You can't tell people not to have children because they are morally corrupt and chose bad leaders in govt. Rather than punish the child (a fresg chance for Nigeria to get it right), punish the adult who is set in his/her ways. But yeah, we probably need population control by way of limiting number of children being delivered (like China's former child policy).
