Twenty-two years ago on this very day, Adelphine Mukabayizere was a normal six-year old girl, enjoying the love of her parents and her seven siblings in Rusizi District (then known as Commune Kamembe) in the Western Province.

By the time that the fastest genocide in history ended one hundred days later, after the Rwandan Patriotic Front defeated the genocidal government of the time, Adelphine had lost her father, a brother and two sisters.

Terrible experience. Nothing as traumatic as a country turning lawless.

It was one of the most terrible, cruel, heartless and barbaric event in history. What we watch in those movies is nothing compared to what actually happened here.

It would be too graphic for any film maker to reproduce some of the events that occurred In Rwanda in those 3 short months.

But they are trying to wave it behind them and move forward.

I can imagine. I lived briefly in a lawless country during our own post-election violence. I wasn't even in a dangerous area. But the thought that your neighbour could decide to attack, kill you and get away with is scared people so much that there would be instantaneous, sudden moments of panic when everybody suddenly started running without knowing why. Very sad.
