Finally, Petroleum Reforms Bill Sets Sail In Senate by brizzyng(m): 10:59am On Apr 15, 2016 |
BRIZZYNG.COM – The Senate Wednesday read for the first time, the Petroleum Industry and Governance Bill (PIGB), signaling commencement of another legislative journey for the much-delayed oil and gas industry reform legislation for Nigeria. The Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) had suffered stillbirth since the 6th assembly owing to factors ranging from geo- politics and controversy over sharing of compensation and powers of the Petroleum Minister, among others. The PIGB, introduced by Senator Donald Alasoadura (APC, Ondo Central) is the combined effort of both the Senate and House of Representatives. In another development, the Senate has mandated its Joint Committees on Petroleum (Upstream and Downstream), Finance and Appropriation to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the joint venture cash calls by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The Senate took the decision due to allegations that the NNPC had been in violation of rules governing its Joint Venture Cash Call responsibility. A motion by Senator Bassey Akpan (Akwa Ibom North east) on the issue led to the senate resolution. http://brizzyng.com/finally-petroleum-reforms-bill-sets-sail-in-senate/ |
