Montgomery County correctional officer charged with handling inmate

A Montgomery County correctional officer was charged Tuesday with handling an inmate in her cell — a case put together in part by linking the correctional officer’s DNA with a sample taken from the inmate’s skin, according to court records.

Omotunde Rauf Sanusi, 40, was arrested at the jail Tuesday morning. He faces charges of third-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, malfeasance in office and sexual contact between a correctional officer and an inmate.

He was processed at the jail and released on a $150,000 bond, according to court records.

Sanusi will be placed on administrative leave without pay pending further action in the matter, said Robert Green, director of the county’s Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.

“This obviously is conduct that we will not accept in our system,” Green said.

In charging documents, detectives alleged that on Sept. 28, at 1 p.m., the 23-year-old inmate awoke to the sound of Sanusi opening her cell door and saying, “Hey.”

She stood up from her bed, at which point Sanusi complimented part of her anatomy, fondled her and kissed her, according to the charging documents.

“Sanusi then turned and exited the cell,” detectives wrote.

The inmate, who is serving time in a drug case, reported the incident to another correctional officer, who told his supervisor, who contacted county police, according to court records.

Part of the inmate’s body was swabbed for DNA, as was her jumpsuit.

Detectives also watched surveillance video. It showed Sanusi going into the inmate’s cell.

“The video also shows Sanusi waking two other inmates located in their cells, through the door slot,” detectives wrote, adding that Sanusi never went into their cells and only went into the victim’s cell.
