The Nigerian Senate has denied that senators took car loans even as it confirmed the purchase of 36 and not 109 Toyota Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV's) or jeeps for its committees. It says each unit of the vehicles cost thirty six point five million naira.

Chairman, Committee on Senate Services, Senator Ibrahim Gobir who disclosed this in an interview in Abuja said the cost of the vehicles include VAT and insurance.


Senator Gobir says the thirty six SUVs were shared to one Senator per state and that such legislators must be a committee chairman to benefit.

Gobir said the sharing formula was agreed upon by all senators at a recent closed door meeting.

He also denied that Senators took Car Loans in addition to the new vehicle.
