It is no longer news that Nigerian celebrities especially those plying their trade in the musical sector of the industry now have as a habit to have children out of wedlock. In fact, in the entertainment clime the word “baby mama” has become a fad and it refers to the women who have babies for these entertainers out of wedlock.

If one should take a closer look at the whole thing, you may begin to think that these male entertainers take it upon themselves to get women pregnant without the intent of marrying them, now the question is why is it becoming the habit of Nigerian celebrities.
Is it that it is safer and less of a burden to be legally married to a lady, one will avoid the hassles of being faithful, monitored or questioned for having other relationships or are they avoiding the consequences of divorce should they get married legally? Do these entertainers in essence want to protect their wealth by just having baby mamas or is it that the exposure they get in executing their duties makes them victims of having so many women ready to give themselves on platters of gold as it seems or then again, are these male entertainers just merely in- disciplined to control their sexual urges or do they feel most of the ladies they come across just want the money and fame but lack love?

Well, whatever, the reasons that one may come up with, it remains a fact that it portends no good for the industry that baby mamas has become a craze or in-thing because these young men are supposed to be role models and as such they should act accordingly by respecting the fact that the Nigerian society does not smile on procreating out of wedlock.

Also, there is the fact that they also do not help in showing the youths of the society to have a safe sexual life style especially with the numerous sexually transmitted diseases out there such as HIV and Zika, with some of these celebrities even having more than one” baby mama”.

The negative effect of this trend does not stop there for it has helped in supporting the idea among the male youths that the Nigerian lady is easy to get as long as one has the money which will go ahead in eroding the value the Nigerian lady is to have and the value of holy matrimony.

Aside the irresponsibility it portrays, it also has a long lasting effect on the children who are brought into the world because they tend to have a divided home or lack the presence of one or both parents which in the long run will have its negative effect on the society.

We can only hope and pray that this new craze becomes minimal in 2016 because a society filled with kids out of wedlock only shows how irresponsible that society has become in adhering to its morals and societal values.

However, we can not out rightly condemn or crucify these men who engage in these acts because like the saying goes ” it takes two to tangle”(I thought it was tango, like the dance), the ladies who get involved with these men should try to act with some level of decorum (does decorum still exist in show business) whereby they do not just engage in sexual acts without protection for women or mothers are the bedrock of every society for they are the custodian of values and morals to be inculcated into the lives of their offspring.
That been said it is no more entertaining that Nigerian celebrities have tolled (towed)the ways of the Western entertainers by embracing the baby mama craze, we all know it is an entertainment industry but there should be a limit in the life of an artist in allowing entertainment into his/her lives.
