Unknown gunmen have reportedly assassinated Prince Chimaeze Oforduru, the son of the traditional ruler of Ikwuano Autonomous community in Isi Ala Mbano town of Imo state.

PM News reports that Prince Chimaeze was brutally murdered on Saturday, April 23, a few weeks after he paid N5 million ransom to secure the release of his 5-year-old daughter that was abducted.

Chimaeze was killed in Owerri by armed gunmen who stormed his residence after reportedly trailing him.

According to the uncle of the deceased, the assassins trailed his nephew to his house around 9:00 pm and fired recklessly at his body.

It was learnt that the assassins waited and ensured that the victim was dead before they left the premises.

The late Oforduru has been only recently elected as the president of the National Association of Nigeria Traders, the Imo state chapter.

The uncle told journalists that his death has been thrown the community into mourning.

He revealed that after the tragic incident, the family contacted the police from the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department in Owerri who has since taken over the investigation.

The uncle begged the police to unmask those who committed the dastard act and bring them to book.
