Amnesty International has expressed serious concern about the recent execution of foreign nationals,  including a Nigerian, Qorbi bin Mussa Adam, over an allegation of murdering  a Saudi national.
He was the second Nigerian to be executed in Saudi Arabia this year after another Nigerian, Jamil 'Abbas Shu'ayb, was beheaded in May. In both cases, the Saudi Arabian authorities have disclosed very little information about their trials but Amnesty International said that these are likely to have been held in secret  as in the case of Suliman Olufemi, another Nigerian who remains at imminent risk of execution in Saudi Arabia. He was sentenced to death in 2004.
In a bulletin received by THISDAY in Abuja, Olufemi’s trial was held in secret and conducted in arabic, which he does not understand, without adequate interpretation facilities. He had no legal representation or any legal assistance. It is feared that he was tortured while being held incommunicado in pre-trial detention to force him to “confess”.
Adam was the 51st person to be executed in Saudi Arabia this year, according to Amnesty International’s monitoring. As in previous years, the figures reflect a disproportionately high rate of executions of Africans and Asians. Of the 51 people executed so far this year, 36 were Saudi Arabians, out of a population of some 21 million, while 15 executions were of foreign nationals residing in Saudi Arabia, whose number approximately six million.  In 2008, the Saudi Arabian government executed, on average, more than two people a week.
Almost half of them were foreign nationals from developing countries, including Nigeria.The government of Saudi Arabia uses the death penalty for a wide range of offences, including offences which are ill-defined or do not have lethal consequences.  The process by which the death penalty is imposed and carried out is harsh, largely secretive and grossly unfair. Executions in Saudi Arabia are generally held in public, and are in some cases,  followed by crucifixion of the bodies.  Saudi Arabian judges have wide discretion and can hand down death sentences for vaguely-worded and non-violent offences. Some migrant workers are reported to have even been unaware that they had been sentenced to death until the very morning of their execution.
The Saudi Arabian government's continuing high use of the death penalty runs counter to the growing international trend towards abolition and the UN General Assembly's adoption in 2007 and 2008 of resolutions calling for a worldwide moratorium on executions. According to Amnesty International, 139 countries in the world have abolished the death penalty in law or practice.

Our president is hearding there this friday for medical check up. No surprise he is toothless to confront the Saudi government on these unlawful killings when he is at the mercy of their health institutions.

The Nigerian man killed someone else according to the news, so why should you go to another man's land and kill him there.
When you are in a place, understand their laws and obey it, else, you will face the law that you break

I dey wonder how some people dey reason these days. Someone broke the law and because he's in a muslim country, he should not be punished?

If he had committee murder in Nigeria, would the ultimate price for him had been death? I don't know whether these people think Yar'Adua has become Captain Amnesty that would go around the world absolving Nigerian criminals.

So a murderer should be allowed to stroll the streets because he's Nigerian. Should they simply deport him like an illegal immigrant without paying for such a grievous crime? You people should be happy that this criminal was taken care of before he came back to Nigeria to continue murdering innocent citizens.

Allahu Akbar!

What were the circumstances of the alleged murder?

Saudi Arabia has not failed in maintaining its position as the most barbaric nation to live in.

* A clear example of a nation steeped in the madness of primitive thoughts and obscene jurisprudence;
* A nation so xenophobic that a foreigner is 100 times more likely to be beheaded than a national;
* A mad house that applies barbaric laws on the ordinary Saudi or foreigner, but never applies them to the thousands of princes who do as they please to whomever they please;
* A feudal state trapped in the discomfort of a modern age and holding on to medieval practices of bruteness and a mechanical interpretation of an outdated legal code.

Sane humans should have nothing to do with the insanity of Saudi-Arabia.

That the United States fails to point to these shameless slaughter of foreign nationals in Saudi-Arabia by the selective application of a wicked legal system ranks in the top ten of the most tragic events of our time.

Capital punishment in Saudi Arabia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saudi Arabia is one of the leading countries with use of the capital punishment and number of executions worldwide.

Methods

Currently Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world which still uses beheading (with a sword) as an official method of execution. Saudi law also allow executions by stoning and firing squad, though execution by firing squad is very rare and is usually carried out in private. Beheadings are preceded by the condemned being tapped of most of their blood and ingesting fairly large amounts of various drugs in order to reduce pain in case of a botched execution, as well as minimize prisoner movement and excessive flow of gore once the beheading is carried out.

Almost all executions are carried out in public (see Deera Square). There have been some examples of decapitated bodies also being crucified.

Crimes

Saudi law allows the death penalty for a number of crimes. For example:

    * Murder
    * Adultery
    * Rape
    * Sexual misconduct
    * Apostasy
    * Blasphemy
    * Piracy
    * Homosexuality
    * Drug-related crime
    * Sedition
    * Prostitution
    * Witchcraft
    * Idolatry
    * Fornication
