I read sometime ago that india was getting solar power from GENCOs at ~N20/kw-h (using N320 a dollar) and i was wondering if they have more sunshine than we do. With oil at and all time low and our greedy GENCOs still looking to charge N30/kw-h it think we need solar power more than ever. 1 Like 1 Share |

They are still considering it, by the time they pass the bill and implement it, temperatures would be pushing 45oC. 6 Likes |

For any climate-change policy to work in Nigeria, there needs to be a drastic reduction in the use of household generators. They are amongst the biggest sources of air pollution, with their toxic fumes contributing to the 'dark' skyline of Lagos. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Misplaced priority. How does that address the immediate basic challenges of food clothing, shelter and security of the general populace. #scrap_NASS #scrap_Nigerian_senate 4 Likes |

CFCman: It goes beyond that. Something as simple as how you dump refuse affects climate change. And we all know, Nigeria is among the dirtiest countries in the world. Nigeria is a lawless country and without laws you cannot begin to legislate climate change. People will ignore it. Nigeria needs to fix it's legal system before delving into advanced issues like climate change. 2 Likes |

sounds good. Better they start.now before industrialization takes over the place and it becomes too late |
Re: Senate Considers Climate Change Bill by Nobody: 9:10pm On May 05, 2016 |
banmee:Right. The way refuse is dumped and burned on the streets especially in cities like Aba, Onitsha and Lagos, gives rise to harmful CO2 emissions too. Moreover, gas-flaring also needs to be stopped in order to have cleaner air in the Niger-delta and surrounding areas. 1 Like |

This is commendable. Nigeria must join the committee of Nations who are consious of the environment. The bill must be targeted at those companies that flare GHG gases and pollute the air. After the successful passage of this bill I expect them to pass the energy policy bill and PIB. 3 Likes |

CFCman: Provide electricity and watch generator use dwindle. Green energy is a little too far from Nigeria, likewise solar. The only people able to install solar panels on a whim are the government. And it's rather costly, isn't it? Climate change is affected by lack of industrial controls (all waste gases, toxic or not are carelessly released into the atmosphere), lack of proper natural gas utilization(really, is flaring the only thing to be done with gas?) and overpopulation. Imagine air that 50 people could comfortably pollute on a certain known area of land being polluted by 50,000 people on the same area of land. There should be more family planning. I digress. The point is, climate change can only be brought about by awareness, good legislation and *actually* enforcing it in incremental stages. It's easy to go to another continent and see the beautiful means of environmental conservation but it's another thing entirely to babble about it in the Senate and continue as before. There is need to be realistic. Nigeria is eons away from civilization. 1 Like |

What baffles me is the fact that all these rickety old lorries and trailers with very old engines keep pumping soot you begin to wonder if their primary function is haulage of goods or carbon production.... The stupid thing is that they all have road worthiness certificate..... Traffic Hot sun Noisy horns Smoke from these old engine trucks and buses..
