In another season of familiar frustrations for Arsenal fans, it will be a bigger blow finishing below Tottenham for the first time since 1995 a new kind of indignity which has not been suffered by a whole generation of Arsenal fans. There are even season-ticket holders at the Emirates who will not have seen Tottenham finish above Arsenal in their entire lives. This indignity would be new to Arsene Wenger too, here’s a fact, since Arsene Wenger took charge of Arsenal, Tottenham have never finished above Arsenal during Wenger’s reign. They have finished above the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, but never Arsene’s men, his supremacy over Tottenham have been supreme up until now.

With Tottenham Hotspur beaten to the title by Leicester City and the The ecstatic rapture rippling across Leicester late into the night was accompanied by an overwhelming sense of relief emanating from the red half of north London. Monday night must have been one of the most enjoyable occasions of a disappointing season for Arsenal fans, as Tottenham were denied their first Premier League title.
