If your route falls within the following:
*Ibadan to Ile-ife
*Ile-Ife to Ibadan
*Ibadan to Osogbo
*Osogbo to Ibadan,
then you are bound to notice the steady improvement in the ongoing construction of the Adebisi Akande Trumpet Interchange (an interchange/fly-over bridge) at the Gbongan junction axis of the Ife-Ibadan highway.

Upon completion, the Ife-Ibadan highway will be one of the safest road in the country. This is because, according to records avoidable accidents have always increased annually along that axis of the road. Many lives have been lost to avoidable havoc at that axis.

For commuters coming from Ibadan entoute Osogbo, connecting the Gbongan end of the road towards the Osun capital is always threatening. Such vehicles would have to maneuver through some kind of ditch at the median of the busy highway, while facing the opposite lane of the highway. Many accidents have been recorded at such instance.

By the end of this year, things would have changed for better. Vehicles from the Ibadan end would only have to switch to a new adjoining lane, further on the right, and cruise the rising curve of the new bridge that flys such vehicle over the highway- thus linking Gbongan road towards Osogbo.

In the same vein, an Ibadan bound commuter from Osogbo, having reached the Gbongan junction has no business having to get to the junction of the highway. The adjoining lane on the right side of the road will be quite adequate to link such vehicle to the Ife-Ibadan highway, thus leaving the Gbongan junction far behind.

That is what the Osun governor dreamt some three years ago. And thank God it is materialising afterall.

It's a Federal government highway though. However, accidents have claimed lives of people who are either Osun indigenes or friends and relations of Osun. Or who at least has one business or the other to do in the state.

In fact, though there are Federal government roads like the one here on focus, but I am yet to see or read about federal government indigenes. And that is pragmatism.

That's a big project that can take only a visionary leader to conceive and execute. Each time pass through the Ibadan-Ife Expressway on getting to the Gbongan Junction, I commend Aregbesola.
