A man accused of murdering a British couple at their retirement home
in Spain could be jailed for 42 years if found guilty.
Prosecutors revealed they were seeking the four decade-long sentence for Moroccan national Driss Drizi after he was charged with killing former Olympic diver David Tarsey and his wife Jean.
The tragic couple, both 77, were found hugging each other on the sofa of their home in Xalo, near Benidorm, with a single bullet wound to their heads in September last year.
Drizi, a 63-year-old painter who lived in a caravan near to the Tarseys, was arrested shortly after the bodies were found following an exhaustive police investigation.
Reports at the time said the immigrant, an acquaintance of David’s, had confessed during questioning to killing the couple, originally from west London, after a row.

Last night it emerged mum-of-two Mrs Tarsey was shot first before her husband, a former engineer who competed in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics as well as the 1954 and 1958 Commonwealth Games, was murdered at their Spanish home.
The horrific nature of the shootings was laid bare in an indictment released by local state prosecutors ahead of Drizi’s trial.

“Once inside an argument took place between the accused and Peter David which led to the accused leaving the house angry at what had happened and going back to his place.
“When he reached it, he got hold of a ORTGIES 7.65mm Browning pistol he had and went back to the Tarseys’ home where the argument between him and Mr Tarsey continued.
“In the course of the argument in the couple’s dining room, and with the intention of ending the couples’ lives, he took out the pistol and shot Jean Tarsey in the face. Read further
