Irrespective of what you studied or didn't study in school, what matters at the end of the day is the productive value you add to your life, and the people around you.

I see school as an opportunity to enhance our intellectual capacity to adapt to the real situations of life.

University education is a scam that many are still falling prey! An average Nigerian spends over 800,000 Naira to get a university education, while in the USA they spend an average of over 10 million and there's still unemployment, most of them graduate with student loans they'll never be able to pay off and a life of regrets. The way forward is to train yourself or your child to be a doer instead of just a thinker. In the Nigerian context, there'll never be enough jobs to cater for all the graduates so the best thing to do is to make a path for yourself where there is none! That 800k if invested wisely can create a source of income much more valuable than the rewards of a university education in Nigeria, now now don't get me wrong, education is a positive but we must move away from the mentality that after 4 to 6 years of university education there's a job out there waiting for us. Sometimes we must make our own jobs, at times we must be our own boss and create our own industries. A secondary school graduate that learns how to sow and start his or her own tailoring business with 800k or a secondary graduate with the same amount who started a block and cement business would soon realize that the profits from those businesses is enough to send him/herself to school while maintaining a stable income. This is the ugly truth about the Nigerian educational and economical system, the average graduate will not make over 800k in 10 years without some unethical practices, it's sad but it's the truth. For such a graduate when will mummy and daddy start eating the fruit of their labor?

It’s time to step out into the REAL WORLD.

It is then you realize that in the real world, countless number of people studied the same course as you did. Now, you have to compete for few available jobs

Every job interview you attend is just like this

I can relate to this

Nice one man. Sometimes we have to dumb what we studied for what we really love and have passion for. I studied Animal Genetics and God knows I would be happier on my deathbed having tended to human than to animals. Dumbing genetics for psychology

take engineering for electrical engineering & mechanical engineering as example.
Here in Nigerian federal universities, many of these courses in the above stated disciplines need to be re-updated.
Imagine using theories, machines and equipment of over 50 years ago to learn at this present point in time. You will so so be irrelevant,

even the lecturers themselves are not standard enough. in many ivy-league schools e.g MIT,Harvard,Oxford.
Many of their lecturers are professionals in the discipline they lecture. for example, their engineering lecturers are indeed professional and certified engineers. they practice the course as they lecture, peradventure there are upgrades or advancements, they quickly include that in the course content.
that is why many graduates take several skill based and practical hands on course after graduation e.g website development,photography,make-up etc

Brother; you nailed it. I am currently a postgraduate engineering student abroad who bagged a first degree in Naija.
You said it all.
