Wow, Buhari couldn't even delay a bit not to look suspicious before rewarding his guys for a job well done. This country is in for a long tortuous journey under this man. When able-bodied, law-abiding graduates are roaming the streets without jobs, terrorists are being handsomely rewarded. Curse be to the day Buhari became the President of the country. 1 Like |

oduastates: Thousands of youths were forced to join these terrorists when their villages were overrun . They either join or were killed . These unwilling recruits surrendered in droves once the heat was turned up by PMB. Incase you don't know the safe corridor initiative was first proposed by GEJ administration . It is only fair for government to free these youths from the clutch of boko haram and rehabilitate and clear their minds of the brainwash the terrorists have made them go through. Their amnesty is different from ND as no money I thrown at them in exchange for arms they are unwilling recruits and were never terrorists . Taking 800 unwilling recruits from the flanks of BH has weakened them and is one of the reasons for the sucesses the Nigerian army are now recording. |

Rolings: The ND millitants had a globally acknowledged cause they fought for, pipelines & hostage takings was their pattern. What was boko haram fighting for? Why were they on a murderous killing spray without any cause? |

SmartMugu: What a horrifying prospect, but I think that is where the Federal Government is headed. To provide a "safe corridor" for the so called 'repentant BH boys to take their killings elsewhere! . These BH boys do not have basic education neither do they possess any skills to be developed through a property articulated amnesty program like in the Niger Delta. The first step in any meaningful amnesty program will be to set up PHSYCHIATRIC CAMPS to overhaul their brain washed ideological programed mental disposition to killing people. . Without first doing this, sending the BH boys back into the society is dangerous. |

Re: Safe Corridor Initiative: 800 Repentant Boko Haram Insurgents Granted Amnesty by mapet: 8:05am On May 10, 2016 |
Rexnegro:youngeagle:to term someone the word militants alone sef is a crime on its own.... just course or Not the fact still remain that amnesty was a mistake in The first place...You don't grant financial or whatever amnesty to militants or terrorists, You can pardon Them instead like a gov, CJ pardon a prisoners to go And sin no more...someone who's truly fighting for a just course will Not settle for anything else...so if You ask me both militants And boko deserves it, cos it was a mistake that has come to stay in The first place.... @Rexnegro, There is no hard and fast rule to situations like these. Once there is a war or aftermath of a war, you have to find a way to integrate those that surrender willingly. It amounts to international war crime to kill a soldier that surrenders. Secondly since they are your citizen, you have to integrate them. You can't just send them into the society, because when they are bored and broke, they still take to arms and become menacing again. I guess the dilemma is what is the government's position and policy to terrorists? Nigeria to-date has not come out to say. That is where I think the confusion lies. OBJ for example put a front of no negotiation with terrorist, yet he negotiated with Asari Dokunbo covertly. Recall that the issue of amnesty to the ND boys was started by Yar'Adua, not even Jonathan, Jonathan just simply went on to give the ND boys way much more than imaginable (pipeline contracts and stuffs). People can shout to the highest heavens on amnesty to BH, but if we don't take a position wrt terrorism.......we're just keeping splinter groups in the cooler |
