Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has hinted that the House will consider lowering the age of eligibility for Nigerians seeking election into political offices in order to allow youths to actively participate in the political process. Dogara also charged youths to participate more actively in politics by breaking voters' apathy and electing leaders who will secure their future and destiny. I think what they should do is to put a maximum age limit for political office holder especially the office of the president to at most 60yrs, we can't afford to take this kind of disastrous risk again. 4 Likes |

Even if the age is reduced to 18yrs, as long as the old generation refuse to bow out, there still won't be space for the youths. Tell all those 70yrs & above men to go back home & look after their grandchildren. 1 Like |

Bad move... Please, I beg them not to lower the age for participation in Politics. If anything, it should be increased to 65 minimum. Nigerian Youths no just get sense.  Even if we use Nairaland as a yardstick where the average demographic ranges between 16 - 26, you can still see that for every 1 smart Youth out there, we have 100,000 reetards behind that person. No Nigerian less than age 65 should hold Political Positions in Nigeria until we fix our Education system and it has been running efficiently for at least 20 years.. 1 Like |
