Is the concept of wearing black clothings for an extended period of time and (abolo)hair shaving among the (igbos) in mourning for close relatives a christian theme or african?

What is the significance of it?It seems to come out more like a taboo if one,a mourner does not do it.

It might be cultural or traditional,i don't know abt African.Even christains engage in wearing black or white clothings BUT no more shaving.

I think its to let everyone know you just lost someone you cherish and a sign of respect to the dead.
Yes,its still seen as been cruel or/and a taboo If one does not do it.
Been that our cultures are changing daily, widows esp Christians now,can now mourn with either a low cut hair, white or black earrings and a white/black gown for just 3 mths as against 1 yr or more praticed b4.Children who loose their parents are not forced to wear white/black clothing or shave,an earring would do just fine.
