BEARING any last minute alteration, organised labour and its civil society allies have resolved to shut down Nigeria from Wednesday, May 18, over the hike in the pump price of petrol announced by the federal government last Wednesday.
Recall the Federal Government on Wednesday announced a new regime of price that took the pump price of petrol to N145 per liter from N86.50.
Vanguard gathered that labour leaders will not later than Sunday send a letter to government demanding a total reversal to the N86.50 pump price of petrol before 12am on Wednesday, falling which all economic and others would be shut from Wednesday.

In as much as I support the removal of subsidy, 145 is actually a ridiculous price to be set. It should be reviewed and reduced to atleast 110/ltr.

It is funny how these old men think. Their time has well passed..We need young and vibrant leaders, people that love their country and not what we are seeing. They claim they are experienced but we still use a 5km/hr railway line. With the so extensive experience they have they can not do simple mathematical logic. Why is it that now that a barrel of crude oil is 40-45usd we are to pay as high as 145/litre. Remember during Xpresident regime we had a barrel of crude oil 110-130usd and we paid at our local market 150/litre and this was only in critical cases where organized labour had to come in. So who is cheating who? how long would this bunch of OLD FOLKS continue to take us for a ride. Why should we pay as high as 200% when the cost of raw materials are now very low. These so called leaders are trying to steal from the already averaged Nigerians, why dont they go and get our money back from the well known thieves?? All the billions of naira our x and current politicians have stolen they should tell them to cough it out rather to steal from the average Nigerian.
