The Ministry of Information and Culture has launched an inquest into how a memo from the ministry requesting for a loan to fund the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed’s trip to China was leaked.

In a letter signed by Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Peter Adama, and addressed to Acting Director General, NBC, the minister had requested for a loan of N13, 120,470 to enable his team to travel for an engagement regarding the promotion of tourism.

Findings by our correspondent showed that some officials in the finance department of the NBC were on Friday summoned to the headquarters of the ministry at Radio House, Abuja, to explain how an official memo leaked to Sahara Reporters, an online news medium.

The outcome of the probe was not yet known as of the time of filing this report.

However, it was learnt that top officials of the broadcast regulatory agency were in Lagos when the memo arrived on Thursday and it was therefore submitted to the finance department.

It was also learnt that the absence of top officials of the NBC was responsible for the delay in the approval and release of the funds to the minister.

Investigation by our correspondent showed that the NBC workers had been grumbling that at a time that the regulatory agency had been grounded by lack of funds, the minister kept bringing requests for funding.

It was learnt that since the minister assumed office in November 2015, he had made requests to the agency three times.

A source, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said, “Security men at NBC have not been paid since January. The last time they were paid, the contractor was asked to source for money and be refunded later.

“There is no money to buy fuel to power the generators, yet requests for funding keep coming from the minister.”

Several calls to the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Mr. Segun Adeyemi, could not be answered, but the Chief Press Secretary to the Minister, Mr. Joseph Mutah, told our correspondent on the telephone that the official response of the ministry was underway. It had yet to be received as of the time this report was submitted.

Is this because Lai Mohammed doesn't owe mere citizens any explanation as to how he runs a public ministry with taxpayers money?

Why won't memo leak when members of staff aren't getting paid even their chicken change yet oga Minister keeps demanding and collecting millions which of course isn't available to ordinary Nigerians? It is time to invoke the FOI

1. Check CCTV camera
2. Contact the despatch in-tray/out-tray
3. Check visitor's register
4. Check secretary 1 & 2
5. Check PA inherited from Labaran Makun
6. Use forensic evaluation on - who touched the letter in transit, opened and fingered the envelope
7. Sack the messenger
8. Look at the shadow beside the letter, it looks like a masculine figure
9. Conduct spiritual warfare, invite Kwara alfas and pastors.
10. Invite the staffers to swears or be taken to Ifa.

Sai Lai

Anyway, listening to Onu Kwube - Stephen Osita Osadebe, an amazing song without envelope

“There is no money to buy fuel to power the generators, yet requests for funding keep coming from the minister.”

This govt is really ludicrous grin.

Meanwhile, The same govt that condemned and objurgated GEJ for making inquisitions and interpellation on the leakage of Sanuni's letter, and Zombies complotted with them to delude gullible Nigerians.

Inculpating someone of what they were potentially guilty of was abhorrent.

Good thing the Ministry has been responding and has in fact confirmed the authenticity of the memo and is even going as far as investigating the source of the leak otherwise some flaky characters will say it's 'ipod yoot' as they call it, that are trying to plant false information and discredit the government of the most upright president and his saintly ministers.

The country is going down too fast.

That's the beauty of social media. This should keep those in power on their toes knowing nothing can be hidden again and will probably lead to better accountability.

On the other hand, why do I feel like Lai Mohammed and the Minister of sport would be the first two casualty of PMB's cabinet?

Re: Ministry Probes Lai's Memo Leakage by Charly68: 2:16pm On May 16, 2016
Very pathetic for an official memo to leak out in an organisation like NBC . May be some people are angry with the minister. The best option would have been to resign anyway. Whoever leaked the memo must be fished out & punished accordingly to serve as deterrent factor to others. Such a thing can't happen in a private organisation. This is part of the rot in public ministry. No more loyalty .
