The transition of power from military rule to civilian rule on may 29, 1999 has made development of Nigeria a difficult task. This I see as the limitation to democracy as a system of government where everybody becomes a policy maker.
One will think that considering the many economic experts the country has had in the past, bringing the nigeria economy to a world class will not be a difficult one, reverse is the case. It seems there is a force in Aso rock that changes the brain our whoever occupies it.
If one has been listening to programmes, interviews and reading media constantly, one can easily conclude that everybody is a policy maker who seems to know very well the solutions to nigeria problems, bring them on board, nothing tangible has been achieved so far. This is also one of our problems in sport where all nigerians know how to coach but bring one of them as coach, we can see that we have achieved little.
Going down the history with objective analysis, you will agree with me that many were achieved under military regime compared to our democracy. This is because, on economy and politics, there is order and rationality and few people talk or make policy, that does not mean there were no limitation to the system.
In my own opinion, the current government should listen to few advices and concentrate on the policies they initiates and are convinced that they can better the life rather than allowing or listening to all the policy makers who seem to know how to fix the problems on air.
