[size=14pt]Former Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency Director - General, Mr Raymond Temisan Omatseye who served under Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has been sentenced to 5 years in imprisonment over a N1.5bn scam.

Omatseye was arraigned in 2010 by the EFCC on 27 count of money laundering & as Director General of NIMASA, but he pleaded not guilty to the counts. He was granted bail on self recognition.

The verdict was given today 20th May 2016 at a Federal High-Court. He was found guilty of 25 of 27 counts leveled against him were based on rigging of contract and awarding of contacts beyond the Ministry’s threshold.

The prosecuting Judge - Godwin Obla (SAN) stated the defense counsel Mr Edoka Onyeke could not prove his client’s innocence in the scam since no witness came forward to testify on it against the Money Laundering Charge.
