It's important for the flesh to be dead in Christians because the flesh is the enemy of the Spirit of God In Men. It was the flesh that is crucified daily so that we can stand sanctified before God. It is denied, because the lust of the flesh is enmity with God.

The flesh is the aspect of man that is prone to sin. It is the sinful conscious that lusts after the things that the rulers and powers of this world likes, and it is fought by not making provision for it, not feeding of grooming the desires of the flesh, and by putting on Christ, who has power to kill the flesh.

Romans 13:14 |
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Who keeps and controls the senses? The Mind pollutes the Flesh. They are both very sensitive Spirits answerable only to God in humans.

It's true the mind influences the flesh. A person who cannot control their mind cannot reign in on their flesh.
