According to an index released by Global Firepower (GFP) measuring a government’s military strength, Nigeria has been ranked as the 4th country with the most powerful military in Africa.

The list of top 30 countries with the most powerful military in Africa has Egypt topping the list, followed by Algeria, Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Africa.

The list is drawn based on the country that has the most manpower, equipment which covers the air, land, naval power and the petroleum to sustain its army among other factors.

The ranking system focuses on the diversity of weapons systems and provides bonuses and penalties for things like nuclear arms, diversity of force structures, and alliances (like NATO).

Meanwhile, the most powerful military in the world is the United States, followed by Russia, China, India and the UK.

US has been the world’s strongest military since 1945.

This is an improvement over previous positions held by the Nigerian military in which they were ranked 7th and then later 8th in Africa.
With better training going on, government plans to increase recruitment, and the procurement of better hardware, this position will only improve even further in the nearest future.

most of this Western military index list are not true.
how do they attest to thus list? when last did those countries fought wars? Morocco, South Africa and Tunisia is way ahead of Nigeria military. it's not by numbers but hardware and technology. Nigeria might be good on filed battles but not it tactics hardwares. i doubt that position for Nigeria. the western media is just been diplomatic and that ends it.

On current gear, the Uganda army will utterly destroy the Nigerian army on the battlefield.
100 T-90 compared to the 26 ancient T-72 in the Nigerian armoury.

15 SU-30 will destroy our 5 ancient mig-21.
Infact only 1 SU -30 is capable of engaging all 5 mig-21 at the same time.
