I don't know which movie you've been watching, but the one I am seeing the villains are Bank executives who unjustly awarded  loans to their friends and family without collateral.

Is there a law that says banks must lend with collateral or that banks can't lend money to certain groups of people?

If these people are suspects, the law should have very quietly followed its normal course; not al this jumping, shouting and conflicting announcements.

Just like a typical 9ja movie, I bet we'll hear more in the coming weeks regarding the whole saga really sad cos this was the only surviving sector in that country call Nigeria.

A lot more story still to come, Oceanic was been run as a SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP RATHER THAN A PLC where all business roles around family and friends ranging from supplies of tissue paper, pens to subletting office apartments (branches) from the children of the Ibru's.

what do you mean by lies? When i worked there i used to think it was a sole business, everything was run by the family. I wouldn't say much because it will be unethical to talk about it due to capacity in which i worked when i was there. Let me say a little though, The media was playing along because they were receiving money from these so called banks e.g "Thisday". Don't you see them coming up with strange awards every other month.

Mrs Ibru is one woman i so much admired n loved, she has created so many jobs, brought so many graduates to light, then why soil all these with this lofty scandal ( "13billion to a nanny" !!!), and also bn wanted on fraud, money laundering, and stock manipulation charges by EFCC,am so disappointed
Re: "The N13 Billion Nanny Loan" Oceanic Bank To Cecilia Ibru's Ex-Nanny by CHANCEMAN: 1:28am On Aug 26, 2009
Bensen, when you were working with Oceanic bank was it a ltd company or a plc ?
so a nanny is not qualified to request for a loan from a bank?
who told you these loans are not secured by collateral.
so friend's and relatives of bankers are not entitled to apply for loans like other members of the public?
Re: "The N13 Billion Nanny Loan" Oceanic Bank To Cecilia Ibru's Ex-Nanny by otokx(m): 1:47am On Aug 26, 2009
I don't understand how some people think left left. The "Nanny" is qualified for a loan of 13 trillion naira as long as she has an asset that is worth more than that. To start with she is not even Nigerian and the only asset she has is the boutique building. CECILIA will have to provide an asset that will liquidate that 13 billion. It is only in Nigeria that people get loans without any collateral.
Re: "The N13 Billion Nanny Loan" Oceanic Bank To Cecilia Ibru's Ex-Nanny by PurestBoy(m): 2:21am On Aug 26, 2009

Re: "The N13 Billion Nanny Loan" Oceanic Bank To Cecilia Ibru's Ex-Nanny by otokx(m): 2:24am On Aug 26, 2009

Something about Nigerians I have noticed is that we are specialists in blaming and persecuting but not proffering sustainable solutions.

I have to admit, I am getting a bit unimpressed by the way the media is cashing in on this banking news crisis. From rough estimates, I would say about 70% of Nigerians are either badly educated or stark illiterate with no abilities to conduct thorough analysis (for themselves) before drawing a conclusion on the current situation. Such misinformation could further increase panic withdrawals which, if not well managed, could collapse all these banks.
Now imagine all the businesses tied to these banks,
• imagine the impact of a job loss on an already depressed economy (these banks employ about 30% of the banking industry’s employees)
• imagine what will happen to all the businesses that depend on the purchase of the staff for survival
• imagine the struggling real economy businesses & trader who rely on the instrument provided by these bank to successfully conduct transaction and do business (the cost of change and the possible loss if no viable alternative can emerge)
Putting all these into perspective will just reveal one simple fact; we are leading this country into a recession.

I really don’t care if these bank MDs messed up nor if this was a northern agenda. These are modalities that all our comments can not do anything about. The question on the mind of every educated mind, every commentator, and every media article should be:
HOW DO WE MOVE FORWARD??

We move forward by these idiots being shamed and forced to pay back every single naira they took!

The fault is not with the media(shock horror) but the useless greedy bastards in charge of these loans and the greedy RICH bastards who took the loans. We Nigerians have a disease of greed and constant 419ing it has to stop. If these people are shamed into repaying or they are jailed because of failure to repay maybe we will have a chance to rid ourselves of the greed that is killing our progress

Nanny?, na wa 4 u nigerians o, anything u get fed with, gets swallowed. i can say authoritatively na Nana was not a nany. nigerians use your senses please, ask questions, use logic. how old is she?how old are the children?

it was reported that she baby sitted Oboden Ibru, HABA!
yes, she owns a company on d list of debtors, that's true and proberly got the loan because she is a "FAMILY FRIEND" to the Ibru family, so?how many people have not gotten favours and help just because we are close to someone in charge or know somebody who does?even in getting emplyment?

i will advise that nigerian publications actually fact find and do what is necessary instead of feeding the "NAIVE" nigerian populace.

I thank God all this is happening at a time like this.Anything done in secret must be revealed one day!It is time for us the people of naija and the youths at large to come out and talk even take action.Nigeria is a very corrupt nation!the corruption annoyes me becos the weak and people working so hard are the ones suffering all this.
I know people, young graduates who are working round the clock to market and meet target just for us to discover that their efforts are all in vain because their managers do not use these monies well.
Nigeria must develop no matter what people do and God will expose them all.
MORE IS YET TO BE REVEALED!!!!

*These people are greedy bastards, agreed.
*They should be shamed (that is already raising some debate in other corners if how the EFCC has gone about it is right).
If we invest on our precious brain cells on critizing those that have done us wrong (by the way, what happened to all our post and comments targeting the Iboris and the Harliburtons of this world), how would we get out of our current mess?If we are successful at punishing them and getting rid of them, what strategy is in place to manage the bank/ process they left behind (bearing in mind, nobody has spent much time thinking about that?) or would we do what we Nigerians love doing best; that is pay some exparts a lot of money to do f**k all?

All the sectors in our economy are at the point of complete collapse.
And the latest victims are the banks. We really should start developing constructive questions on recruiting the EDs, corporate governance, risk management and measure to ensure what took place does not reoccur again.
