The problem with Nigeria is you, me and everybody including our leaders. Our brains are so corrupt that we cannot even see the positive side of the nation again. And every positive move by any Nigerian to make the nation better is first condemned by us Nigerians and we don't just stop there we go ahead to blow up every of our weaknesses to the whole world . We simply find joy painting ourselves so badly in the eyes of the world even though we are not worst than anybody else where. When there is 419 we make noise about it as if it does not happen else where. When there is armed robbery we broadcast it to the whole world as if we are better than Americans and the rest of the world in robbery, we are so shameless that we loudly paint ourselves bad and allow the world to paint us as they like as if they are holier than us. The rate of crime in south africa is alarming yet they don't make noise about it and yet they are the first to talk about crimes in Nigeria. The world will address us the way we present ourselves. Keep making noise about our weaknesses as though we are the worst set of people in the world and you will keep being treated like a goat every time and everywhere you hold the green passport. I hope we will understand now what the re branding exercise is all about. It is not to make us look good, it is to deliberately let the world also know the good side of Nigeria. We are not all about negativity, in fact we are good people! Foreigners who are raking millions daily doing business in Nigeria can testify.

Bros, our problem is legion. As deb has said, it starts from us, the people. Way forward is GOOD LEADERSHIP. History has taught us that people in general, want a good leader, someone who will tell them what to do, when to do it and how to do it. They want someone to show them a vision, to lead them in the right (or wrong) direction. Before we start arguing about this, lets look at the example of Singapore and Lee Kuan Yew. Adolf Hitler and the Germans (even though he was the cause of world war 2, he built an industrialised Germany and facilitated the manufacture of cars, planes, industries, etc) |

Epiphany: GOOD LEADERSHIP is numero uno and everything else flow from there. A good leader will 1. Derive his authority and mandate from the people 2. Tackle corruption. 3. Allow good electoral system 4. Develop good institution 5. Will not turn the nation into comedy 6. will build infrastructures and not got to hospital in a foreign country 7. not lie about his health, and would be fit for office physically and mentally in the first place. 8 have a true and achievable vision for his people. 9. encourage diverse opinion and build from bottom up 10. Develop future leaders and leave office when his/her term expires. I can go on and on BUT that is what GOOD LEADERSHIP does for you, and it has been missing in Nigeria for most part of our 49 years of independence, because we have RULERS not GOOD LEADERS. then somebody wake up trying to fool themselves by Rebranding a non existing brand. it will not work NIGERIA: GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION, AWFUL LEADERSHIP ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Bros, our problem is legion. I guess people deserve the kind of leaders they get because these so called leaders actually come from within the people. Can anyone still imagine IBB walking the street of Nigeria a free man? And we are supposed to be a sane nation. |

@Poster, the problem with Nigeria is the country is filled with a majority who rather spend time asking over and over what the problem is and less time actually trying to implement solutions that have been tried and tested and shown to work in other places before condemning them. Rather than demand problems be solved, we continue to allow ourselves believe our problems are unique and so we need SPECIAL solutions to them -- Special solutions we seem to be searching for, to this day. |

We have lots of problems but so does every other country. The biggest ones we have are NEPA, tribalism/fanaticism, and open corruption. |

@ Gekko Please where can I get that Chinua Achebe's book, it will be interesting to see how his perspectives from before 1983, and post 1983 relates to today and how it can guide us to the future. GOOD LEADERSHIP is the only solution, a good leader will have vision of how to take his people to a better future using other successful countries as comparism and role model. For instance, in Rail transport, most countries study France and copy them etc. so good leaders always want the best for their people and apply best practices. In Nigeria, reverse is the case, 'leadership' is about bleeding their own people to death. @ SEUN All those problem you have listed are direct result of LACK OF GOOD LEADERSHIP. With good leadership they will cease to be a problem. If you know how Aircraft travel, you will know that a change of 2 degree in their navigation will result in 1000miles difference in their destination after few hours. That is excatly what leaderships translate to in any country. They are the compass or Rudder on which that country is used to navigate even in turbulent weathers. NIGERIA PROBLEM; GOOD LEADESHIP, GOOD LEADERSHIP, GOOD LEADERSHIP. period. |

Seun: How can anyone add to this statement? You have just wrapped the issues of Nigeria up in a nutshell. |
