Very Simple... Bad installation!
95% of Solar installers have no indepth knowledge or understanding of the system or what they are installing. It's like they all went to the same rubbish solar school. It's so embarassing some of the installations I see,

I currently have a 3kva system and I had to direct the "boys" on how to even place the panels and configure everything. All the while, he was saying "That's not how we do it ooo" And I even had to pay extra for the installation because it wasn't their standard (rubbish) Installation

2 years later, I have now discouvered the inverter was even configured wrong. Even though they told me it was "Solar Priority" I found that I was using a lot of NEPA units to simply charge the batteries. (Using up to 3KW per day sometimes when my load for that day is not even up to 1KW

I have subsequently rectified the situation when I found a competent installer and doing a lot of research myself
This is why most solar installations are bad and don't last. It's not the tech, it's the quacks that we have doing the installations.

I'm about to install an additional 5KW system now and I'm doing it all myself. Solar is AMAZING if done right!

Great job. I quite agree with you that many who do the installations don't have indepth knowledge. Some don't even know the direction of the sun to place the panels on rooftops. Not to mention the cable size/type required for a particular installation and many other flaws.

I got each panel for N49,000 as at January, this year..

It was more of a swap deal tho.. I lost a few bucks in the process. I returned the three 130W/12V panels I got and exchanged all three for one 300W/24V panel before paying him 49K to have one extra 300W/24V. I actually needed them in 24V to make upgrade easier and for it to consume less space on the roof.

Can someone please talk about the central solar water heaters and how one can benefit from it in Nigeria. I came across some few posts in the Building Construction section suggesting that it is only achievable when incorporated in the initial building plan. Does anyone use this or has knowledge on this?

And for deep freezers, would buying a standalone solar deep freezer so as to reduce the load on a solar system one will want to incorporate, a wise decision than just factoring in your regular deep freezer into your solar system set-up budget? Thanks
