About Competition
Competition law sets out the rules that regulate the operation of commercial entities within the economy so as to ensure that virtues of competition are not impeded. Competition policy sets out the broad vision of measures aimed at promoting and regulating competition in the economy. It also sets out the goal of promoting competition in the economy. Competition is the process of economic rivalry between firms striving to gain sales, market shares and make profits.

Some benefits of Competition are:

• Competition frustrates cartels.

• Competition kills monopoly.

• Competition drives prices down.

• Competition is in consumer interest.

• Competition encourages quality.

• Competition creates jobs.

• Competition prevents price fixing.

• Competition boosts the economy.

• Competition protects the consumers.


Competition Bill

The Competition and Consumer Protection Bill is a bill that would benefit the private sector and set out regulations that promote competition, prohibit abuse and manipulation by monopolistic entities, as well as ensure consumer protection. The Competition Bill, sponsored by the Hon. Speaker Dogara, had it's first Public Hearing on May 31st at the House of Assembly.
