Buhari Should Return Home For Treatment – Commonwealth Medical Association by TheFreeOne: 7:56pm On Jun 06, 2016
Friday Olokor, Abuja

The Commonwealth Medical Association on Monday faulted the decision of President Muhammadu Bubari to proceed on foreign medical trip for a persistent ear infection, saying he has lost a golden opportunity to assert his change mantra.

The CMA in a statement issued by its Vice President and former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, described the foreign medical trips by politicians and their aides which are financed with tax payers’ resources, as most times unnecessary.

He said, “Mr. President should act now to remove this tragic blot on our collective professional and national image by returning home to receive medical care in Nigeria. Doing otherwise will send a strong negative signal to majority of toiling Nigerians who either have no means to seek healthcare services or daily indulge in catastrophic health expenditures, talk less of dreaming of traveling abroad for medical treatment.”

According to him, the President’s foreign medical trip runs contrary to the earlier declaration by the Federal Government to halt the embarrassing phenomenon of outward medical tourism, which as at the end of the year 2013 had led to a humongous capital flight of about US $1billion dollars, particularly from expenses incurred by political and public office holders (and their accompanying aides).

“If the former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Capt. Idris Wada, could patronize Nigerian trained medical experts and medical facilities here in Nigeria when he unfortunately suffered a fractured femur following a fatal road traffic accident in 2013, I see no reason why in 2016 Mr. President could not have stayed back in Nigeria to attend to his ear infection”, he stated.

The association said Buhari had refused to make a clear public pronouncement on his resolve to show leadership by example with respect to the utilization of the medical expertise and facilities that abound in Nigeria by him and other members of the Federal Executive Council, particularly in concrete expression of section 46 of the National Health Act which seeks to address the abuse of tax payers’ resources through frivolous foreign medical travels embarked upon by political and public office holders.

Enabulele said, “Undoubtedly, this latest move by Mr. President at a time the Federal Government is said to be on a change mission and rebirth of national consciousness and commitment through a backward integration agenda, Mr. President has lost a golden opportunity to assert his change mantra through a clear demonstration of leadership by example, by staying back to receive medical treatment in Nigeria and thereby inspiring confidence in Nigeria’s health sector which currently boasts of medical experts that favourably compare with medical experts anywhere in the world, if not even better.”

The CMA regretted that most public and political office holders who seek foreign medical care abroad were usually handled by Nigerian trained doctors in foreign lands, particularly in the United Kingdom which has over 3000 Nigerian trained medical doctors, United States of America with over 5000 Nigerian trained medical doctors, amongst other foreign countries.

The organisation said most of these Doctors left the shores of Nigeria on account of government’s perennial failure to address the various push and pull factors which have consistently driven this yearly brain drain phenomenon in Nigeria.

Enabulele said, “Available records show that last year (2015) alone, 637 medical doctors emigrated due largely to poor working conditions and health facilities, insecurity, unpredictable and poor funding of Residency Training Programme, uncompetitive wages and job dissatisfaction.

“Without prejudice to the expert recommendation of Mr. President’s Personal Physician and the ENT specialist said to have examined and treated Mr. President in Abuja, I consider it a national shame of immense proportions that Mr. President had to be recommended for foreign medical care/re-evaluation despite the presence of over 250 ENT specialists (and professors) in Nigeria, as well as a National Ear Centre located in Kaduna state

“If I were in their shoes I would have advised Mr. President to stay back in Nigeria and explore any of the following options: (1) urgently invite a consortium of Nigerian trained ENT specialists in Nigeria to Abuja to re-evaluate and treat Mr. President; or (2) if it is determined that the medical expertise is not available in Nigeria, any identified Nigerian trained ENT specialist practicing anywhere in the world should be invited to Abuja, Nigeria, for the sole purpose of re-evaluating and treating Mr. President; or (3) if it is a case where the health facilities/equipment are unavailable (and this is a possibility) then Mr. President should have used his current medical situation to commence the government’s plan to re-equip Nigerian hospitals with modern state-of-the art health facilities.

“On account of the foregoing, I humbly and passionately appeal to Mr. President to show committed leadership by urgently rethinking the planned foreign medical travel and exploring the above suggested options of getting treated here in Nigeria.”

I doubt that it is a common ear infection...otitis media or what? Maybe it is something more serious and they don't want to say.

There's more than meets the eyes on this ENT checkup.

This govt is not telling Nigerians the truth regarding Buhari health status or how do one explain his foreign medical care/re-evaluation despite the presence of over 250 ENT specialists (and professors) in Nigeria

When will this administration stop embarrassing itself and Nigerians with volte-faces, discordant tunes, incompetency e.t.c

Buhari is critically and terminally ill.

That latest lie on ear infection is a big ruse.

As far as I know Buhari has been partially deaf since that day he made the comment about 97 vs 5 percent in Washington.

If you watched the video you will see Buhari needed the mn sitting close to him to relay the question a member of the audience put to him directly into his ears.

Buhari is partially deaf but I believe he is critically ill.

Well said. Any good thinking citizen should condem PMB health tourism. Though am not suprised because PMB is not a man of integrity. A man of integrity sticks to his word. He just scored another minus. Government of evil change.

The man has been partially deaf for sometime, long before he assumes the leadership position, a few examples should suffice to convince any objective mind. I think he was slapped by Dasuki during d coup that ousted him from power in 85

1- when d whole word were calling Abacha the biggest thief to ever ruled Nigeria and even after d return of his parts substantial loot SwitZerland, Buhari told the world Abacha was a saint

2-Osinbajo and other broom waiving witches and wizards in d hierarchy of APC promised heaven and earth to gullible Nigerians during campaign. Bubu became d president and feigned ignorance of d plethora of vacuous promises by his parry. I think he was deaf during campaign

3) Burutai told him d marauding Fulani herdsmen are Boko Haram, Lai told him they are from Mauritius but Bubu was only reading their lips and thought they both were saying Libya

We can go on and on with examples to show d Pres has long been partially deaf but we pray he gets complete cured of this ailment on this trip

Good.
If not that the unorganised labour has been bought over, the banks have been harangued into halting their massive sack, the NBA has gone dumb in the face of legal impunity and extra judiciiial kiilliings, and the youths enjoy more rice instead of their secured future, we would have drummed some senses into this man called Mr. Buhari
Re: Buhari Should Return Home For Treatment – Commonwealth Medical Association by tafrica(m): 7:11am On Jun 07, 2016
I have always said it that Buhari does not have integrity, sincerely I dont count on his words again. He is one of recent politicians, as old as he is (no disrespect), that effortlessly eat their words.
What do we say of a president that promises to disclose his assets and ensures all his appointees do likewise, but reneges on that?
What do we say of a man that promised federalism in campaign but now keeps mute on it?
What do we say of a man that beat chest he would probe from 1999 till date but later scoped it around GEJ and his PDP goons? and even dropped all petitions against Amaechi, Fashola, Fayemi etc under the carpet.
What do we say of a man that we were told had no house in ABJ, only to later be summarilly told he had house in Abuja.
What do we say of a man that publicly lied to the world that rampaging fulani herdsmen were libyans, was there any confession from any arrested suspect to arrive at that?
A man that frowned at presidential fleet and vowed to dispose or turn them to public airlines, he now enjoys touring the world with the jets, none has been sold neither is there any step to turn them to public airline.
A man that recently announced that all political appointees wouldnt go overseas for treatment, but in the twinkle of an eye he has eaten his words like a piece of cake, he has gone abroad for ENT treatment.
During campaign, our president had one million naira in his account, was poor, borrowed to buy form, yet his wife donated drugs worth of several millions, his children schooled and still school abroad.
A man of integrity would not openly proclaimed "Abacha did not steal" he would rather keep silent if he could not man up enough to attest to Abacha's corruption.
so many countless words have been uttered by Buhari, perhaps to score cheap political points and gain applause, but he rarely does them. The man does not even respect his own words.

Buhari was sold to us on lies, remember during campaign, Buhari was reportedly ill, went abroad as usual and Garba Shehu released his old pix in one of ABJ hotels but we were told it was an interview session in abroad.

GEJ, irrrespective of his flaws, boastfully said I do not have foreign accounts, my children school in Nigeria and support the growth of Nigeria. He said his ambition was not worth the blood of any NIgerian, he conducted an election that removed him and handed over as he said, you can say he was cowed by an international community, but I say that is integrity, he meant his words and he did it.

Always make your words soft in case you may need to swallow them, but Buhari is fond of making hard words which he is not man enough to swallow them.

I'm not a WAILER or HAILER, nor a PDP, but I ma just tired of Buhari playing on our intelligence. He only talks to excite his followers, he is not a man of his words, he does not do them.

God bless me and you too to bless Nigeria (Amen).

These guys don't get, do they? Previously, I thought our Intelligence Agencies weren't working until Buhari had to dash out to London yesterday, on referral, to attend to a "persistent" ear infection.

You know what? Most likely, their Intel revealed those crazies' intent to test their missiles on Aso Rock, among other targets, today. And there has to be a good reason for the boss not to be around, as it was with Ogoni.

No be ear infection wey I use one green grass for my gwanMama compound treat that year? I laff in French!

As you see me so, if person pass me, I no dey follow am do agidi. In the same way I am constrained to ask the FG to negotiate with these terrorists if they honestly cannot crush them! Things are not looking good for a lot of folks presently. Biko nu.
