There are indications that former military ruler, General Ibrahim Babangida may have passed on.
Sources told IrohinOodua this afternoon that the military ruler passed on today after a protracted battle with ill health which he had kept to himself for close to a decade.
“The General passed on today. We expect he will be buried according to Islamic rights” a source told Irohinoodua correspondent this afternoon in Minna, the Niger State capital.
The former military dictator was responsible for the annulment of the June 12 1993 election believed to have been won by the late business mogul, Chief M.K.O Abiola. He later ‘stepped aside” after a social turmoil engineered by the civil society movement led by the Campaign for Democracy, (CD).
He ruled Nigeria for eight years and was reputed as one of the most mischievous military leaders that ever ruled Nigeria. He came to power on August 27, 1985 after staging a coup to remove the current civilian President Mohammadu Buhari.
To many, it is an irony of history that Babangida died few days to the 23th anniversary of the June 12 election which he annulled.
