Here’s what family spokesmen Bob Gunnell said:“Everything we’re doing herewas blessed by Muhammad Ali and was requested.”He said Ali wanted different religions at the service. Gunnell said he wasn’t preparing for Trump on Friday, but “he would be welcome to attend.” Although thefamily is aware of Trump’s nasty rhetoric,Ali’s friend, Saliha Shakir, said that he would never turn anyone away, even Trump:undefined“None of us care for [Trump’s] rhetoric, but this is what Ali would have wanted. He would not have turned him away.”Shakir emphasized that Islam is an inclusive religion and the family is simply following the tenets of the religion despite the hate mongering and Islamophobia Donlad Trump has both spewed and encouraged throughout his campaign, which has prompted a rise in Islamophobia acrossthe country.Although Ali was a man of grace and dignity, he was aware of Trump’s Islamophobic rants. In December, Trump said that if he became president, he wouldensure a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” His statement came five days after a mass shooting by two extremists in San Bernardino, California. Muhammad Ali hadaperfect responsethat was directed at Donald Trump without actually mentioning his name:“Speaking as someone who has never been accused of political correctness, I believethat our political leaders should use their position to bring understanding about thereligion of Islam and clarify that these misguided murderers have perverted people’s views on what Islamreally is.”Ali also had a message for those who commit horrible acts in the name of Islam:“I am a Muslim and there isnothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, SanBernardino, or anywhere elsein the world. True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so called Islamic Jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion. We as Muslims have to stand up to those who use Islam to advance their own personal agenda. They have alienated many from learningabout Islam. True Muslims know or should know that itgoes against our religion to try and force Islam on anybody.”Donald Trump could learn a thing or two from the family of Muhammad Ali. He hasbadmouthed Muslims, called for their expulsion and has kicked Muslims out of his rallies. Yet, despite all of these facts, the family of Muhammad Ali, a Muslim family, has welcomed him to mourn for theloss of one of the greatest Americans thiscountry has produced: a Muslim American by the name of Muhammad Ali.
