June 12, 1993 witnessed the Presidential election most Nigerians still consider the most credible in the nation's history. Following its annulment & everything which happened after, June 12 has come to be seen as symbolising democracy, the right of a people to self-determination, nationhood, opportunities, hope and progress. However, 23 years to the day, has any progress being made? Will members of MKO Abiola's family feel that his sacrifice has been worth anything?

Yes op, progress has been made.....in 1998 we used to have atleast 10 hours power supply but now, nothing. Thats progress. In 1998 we didn't have boko boys, kidnappers everywhere but now we have them. Thats progress. In 1998 we didn't have the kind of bad roads we have now.....thats progress. In 1998 nigerian youths were called leaders of tomorrow but today a 74 year old man is the president........thats progress. In 1998 we didn't have a lawyer as a minister for power but now we do.........thats progress. In 1998 petrol was easy to buy but now scarcity is the order of the day........thats progress. In 1998 tomatoes were just tomatoes but now tomatoes are now worth more than gold........thats progress. In 1998 we nigerians with our ssce, diplomas, degrees, phd, bsc, pmb, gej, obj, bcon never thought that we would ever vote for a man that never sat for waec as president but now we have one like that........thats progress. Ka chineke mezie okwu.
