Very very sad. Militants killing innocent people? Very sad. But are they Ijaw militants? There was news earlier this year that militants are now present in Ikorodu(Lagos) and Ogun. Looks like it was true afterall. |

RIP to the dead. - Innalilahi wa ina ileihi rajiun Lets hope irresponsible and incompetent officials do not jump into their usual cop-out position by calling the invaders, Fulani herdsmen, without any evidence. Amosun needs to focus on addressing the real needs of Ogun State residents instead of wasting his spit on opposing responsible grazing zones. As for you Igbo and Yoruba folks on this thread who are insulting each other on this thread - I say, a big Shame On You! |

They are Yoruba militants. Ijaw militants have no business coming to Ogun state when they have overwhelming assignment in their region |

nduchucks: One real need is NO GRAZING ROUTES OR ZONES which he has addressed with dispatch! You are there considering the culture of nomads as more important than owners of land and farmers who do not roam abi? If they cannot invest in proper ranches as business ventures, there's massive arable land for roaming and grazing up north. Sambisa alone is rumoured to be bigger than Lagos or even Enugu State. |

freeze001: Amosun's opposition to grazing zones fail to solve the problem the zones will help to resolve. This is a sign of irresponsible leadership. If he opposes the grazing bill, what solutions has he proffered? None that I am aware of. The status quo remains unacceptable. |

What is this? Most likely the attackers are fulani herdsmen fighting for grazing land in Ogun State. Cc SuperS1Panther, MayorofLagos. |

Let me say the truth. Walahi talahi! There are many yoruba pipeline vandals in Ogun state especially around Arepo and Imushin. They are usually armed to the teeth. The reason why they have attacked the community is that someone may have snitched on them. These are not NDA, these are pipeline vandal who make a living selling cheap fuel from burst pipelines. If this story is true RIP to the dead! |
Re: Ogun State INVADED! 15 Killed As 100 Militants Embarked On Killing Spree! by freeze001(f): 4:42pm On Jun 19, 2016 |
nduchucks: Why must it be a national problem? The first issue is that d government doesn't consider their dangerous and murderous tendencies something to address with concurrent force especially where human lives have been wasted. Secondly, the solution remains legislation mandating all cattle rearers to acquire and equip ranches for their cattle within a specific time. The government, in supporting d development of agriculture should make available low interest loans and training for ownership and operation of ranches.Ajimobi actually proffered the same solution of ranching. The herdsmen may approach state governments and owners of land and negotiate terms for allocation of a well defined area for their ranches. It may be a long term lease or outright purchase. That way it is a registered business regulated by law and they can pay taxes to d states. Outside this, no state in the south will cede its lands to d FG for rearing of cattle. It is not d business of the FG. The role of d FG with our crazy central policing is to ensure adequate and effective protection for all citizens, both their lives and properties. |

freeze001: I think you'll find that the statement in bold is not accurate. There is already a significant amount of land already vested in the Federal government or its agencies within all states, which can be designated for grazing. Additionally, state Governors can be encouraged "presidentially" to donate additional land. The National Grazing bill is workable and will save lives. The status quo is not good enough particularly, as you know, no state is empowered to forcefully prevent any Nigerian from moving through the state. The herdsmen will continue to move their cattle as needed, pockets of violence will continue to be present, until a bill such as the national grazing bill is passed and implemented. I am yet to see a practical alternative to the said grazing bill. Would you happen to have a practical alternative solution in mind? If so, I'm all ear. |

Re: Ogun State INVADED! 15 Killed As 100 Militants Embarked On Killing Spree! by nduchucks: 5:41pm On Jun 19, 2016 |
freeze001:Here is your solution
Ranching is not undesirable and the output of this technique is transported via roads and rail from the North to the South. I also agree that low interest loans and training for ownership should be provided to encourage ranching. Unfortunately, this does not address the issue at hand i.e. herdsmen/farmer conflicts which have become violent in many cases. The herdsmen are nomads who are unwilling to give up their way of life. A way of life they've practiced for possibly hundreds of years. It will take a generation to educate the nomads to the point that they become successful ranchers if they are willing to abandon their way of life. The realities are that, the nomads want to remain nomads, and it is their right to choose how they wish to live their lives. What a responsible government does is to reduce violent conflicts among its citizens due to conflicting interests. This is exactly what the national Grazing bill, if implemented would do. I'm afraid your Ranching proposal is impractical. You have to be exposed to western education to be able to run a Ranch successfully. |

nduchucks: Time was when we were all næked and happy. Today we wear clothes and can't do without them. Mr President for instance is a fulani man. He owns cattle but doesn't herd them. He doesn't roam either except u mean his incessant travelling makes him an executive nomad. Just like him, most owners of the cattle are not the herders on the street, they are established and educated business men. Let those educated men establish their ranches. Their tradition is their business, government is not meant to enhance one tradition over others. Nomadic lifestyle is alien to Southerners so if they cannot adapt to mote modern ways of life, do not expect d South to suddenly imbibe or accommodate them. They can roam in the North and operate ranches in the South. |

mesoprogress: Crime ! These are militants who invaded the core of peaceful Yoruba land because of it's connnecion to the swampy waterways from South South. Let them know this would not be tolerated. If they want to agitate and pull gragra with the FG cool, but the Yoruba don't play that game. |

VICTORCIZA: Ijaw militants have been attacking facilities in lower eastern Lagos state and Ogun state as it is accessible from the creeks . Many gas terminals in Lagos have been attacked recently and some arrest has been made by NSCDC.
