– The House of Representatives is planning to convene a public
hearing on alleged sex scandal involving its members
– Nicholas Ossai, the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, has
promised to thoroughly investigate the incident
The House of Representatives will reportedly conduct a public hearing
to discuss the sexual allegations brought against three Nigerian
lawmakers by the US ambassador James F. Entwistle.
The hearing is a part of the investigation initiated by the House Ethics
Committee and supported the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Commenting on the controversial issue Nicholas Ossai, the chairman
of the ethics committee, said:
“It was clearly stated when the committee was set up that we should
make it transparent public hearing and the three lawmakers agreed.
We’re going to do it openly so that everybody would see what we’re
doing.”
However, a specific date of the hearing is still unclear as well as how
the general public would be engaged in the process.
Recall that Mohammed Garba Gololo (APC, Bauchi), Samuel Ikon
(PDP, Akwa Ibom) and Mark Gbillah (APC, Benue) were accused of
attempted rape and soliciting for sex, while on their leadership
training program in Ohio, the Unites States on June 9.
The three accused lawmakers denied the allegations describing them
as “character defamation and a calculated attempt to ridicule the
National Assembly.” Meanwhile, t he Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has ordered an investigation into the
matter.
