A 23-year-old unemployed man was, on Wednesday, charged before a Badagry chief magistrates’ court for allegedly stealing a bag of rice. Tijani Dada, address unknown, allegedly stole the bag of rice valued at N13,000 at the Alagbata Market in Badagry. He is facing a one-count charge of stealing before the court. According to the police, the rice belonged to the complainant, Mrs Morenikeji Ajala. “The accused came to the complainant’s shop when she was not around and just took a bag of rice, but he was caught before he could get away,” the police said. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Counsel for the accused, Mr Folabi Smith, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms. The magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, however, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government. The case was adjourned till July 27 for hearing.
