The Punch Newspaper has over time acted like an irresponsible organisation with no regard for the truth or facts.

On its stance on happenings in the state of Osun, the paper has gone out of its way to deliberately distort facts, turning logic on its head in order to vilify the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

If the paper had researched very well before writing its latest editorial article, it would have found out that many of the things Gov. Aregbesola is being accused of is wrong and based on a faulty premise.

1. At no time did the governor recommend or approve the use of hijab nor the colour female students ought to use. In fact, it was as a result of his stand against it that the Muslim Students' Association sued him to court.

2. Ogbeni I gather, is totally against leading students in any religious direction. He said recently, "it is not the business of any government, through the schools, to lead a child in a particular religious direction. That will be for parents and religious institutions, in private capacity, until the child is grown enough to make a decision on religion."

He said, “The government therefore cannot support or be seen to be supporting a particular religion. The government is a democracy, not a theocracy."

3. His reason for creating the Muslim New Year and the Isese Day for traditional religious worshipers in addition to the already known Christian holiday is to give everyone a sense of belonging. You can't blame a government for this.

4. I would expected this paper to have before now call on CAN to act responsibly like their Muslim counterparts who appealed the judgment in Lagos rather than resort ti self help. By the way, it the paper had researched well, you would have reported that OSUN CAN has actually appealed the judgment.

Lastly, the paper most always thrive to present facts and not conjured bunkum in order to nail a governor who has done nothing wrong than advance the course of his people.

May wisdom always prevail at your editorial board meetings.

Sadly, we have a media that increasingly feeds on sensational reportage that just seeks to put something that will attract attention, however false it is. No iota of effort to verify accuracy. Shame. I read of it myself severally where the Governor continuously corrected that his government gave no directive for hijab use as is being bandied about. In any case, it was the Aregbesola led state government that was even sued to court by the muslim community after hijab use had been banned. Our dailies need to learn, a little truth does not hurt

Who created the religious problem in Osun

What is Aregbesola rationale for merging the schools Will such move not cause distraction for students that ought to be committed to studying and create divisions

The Op should stop supporting a religious bigot with insincere intentions.

Aregbesola created the crisis and he has no other option than to resolve it.

The schools belong to government, as head of govt he can do that.

Religious sensitivity in West is a recent phenomenon and legacy of Jonathan's PDP, using Oritaejafor in his capacity as head of CAN to bring division between muslims and christians and also creating animosities between pentacostal, protestant and catholic christians.

Oritsejafor spread the wrong gospel in exchange for exclusive access to Jonathan and largesse.

Most people who never before saw their neighbour's faith and religion as an issue are now camped under tents that promote religious intolerance.

CAN got a lot of people thinking that schools bearing missionary names are owned by the missioners. WRONG! This is the case in Osun where christian parents are saying muslim girls enrolled in schools bearing christian names cannot come to their school with hijab. Who told these people that a Baptist High School in Ede belong to Christians? No, it belongs to government.

The new president of CAN needs to go on field campaign and bring his flock back into the age long tradition of communal toletance that the West is reputed for.

Jonathan and Oritsejafor were bad leaders for this country and moreso for the South. With another four years of Oritsejafor, under a re-elected Jonathan, religious crisis would have erupted in Yorubaland and consume indigenes and non-indigenes alike.
