The Confederation of African Football
(CAF) have disqualified Algerian club
Entete Setif from the Orange/CAF
Champions League (CAFCL) following
the crowd trouble that marred their Gro
B clash with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa on Matchday 1. This was confirmed via a statement on
the official website of CAF on Thursday
night. The decision was also explained i
the statement which reads: “(The
decision was taken) following regrettabl
incidents that took place during match no. 98 of the 2016 edition of CAF
Champions League between ES Setif
(Algeria) and Mamelodi Sundowns
(South Africa), whereby the referee was
obliged to abandon the said match
before its end.” “Match officials noted especially the pit
invasion as well as numerous throws of
missiles, stones, bottles and firecracker
provoking a certain number of injured
spectators and members of the security
forces. “The CAF Organizing Committee for the
Inter-Clubs competition decided to appl
the provisions of Chapter XII para 3 and
considered ES Setif loser and eliminate
from the competition without prejudice t
any other sanctions that may be impose by CAF Disciplinary Board.” the.
Statement further said. Entete Setif lost the game 0-2 to
Mamelodi Sundowns but they have now
been disqualified leaving the South
African side, Enyimba and Egyptian sid
Zamalek in Group B.
