So many of you jumping into languages and thinking in one month you can learn and code. See anybody can pick up a book and in one month start writing code but this does not mean that person can "really code". The real issue here is learning the fundamentals of coding. How to think like a programmer. Algorithms Mastering data structures. Some of you will run and learn JavaScript and node.is in one month and start building websites and apps without knowing what linked list, tree or hash table is. Soon you will realise that you have a gap in your fundamental knowledge. The issue is not can I learn so so in one month.the issue is "do you know how to program" Have you an above average understanding of data structures and how to manipulate them efficiently. Without all these if you like learn java script and start coding websites and apps but the truth is you will be a mediocre progtammer. One month is not enough for one to really say he can program or call himself a programmer. When you can think algorithmically , write efficient code, breakdown problems very well then you are on your way. In Nigeria here we seem to see guys who just pick up a book on a language and in a very short time start parading themselves as programmers. I am not an expert but I am on the right way doing it the hard way so that one day I can stand out because I have a deep knowledge of what it takes to really program and build apps. So the answer to your question YES you can learn JavaScript in one month but you will be mediocre even if you start building "cool apps or websites". You just will not get to a real professional level where you really stand out. So my final answer is No. A bit of an irony is it not.haha Cheers 6 Likes |

My final answer is this: - yes: you can learn javaScript in a month -no: you can never be good enough to use the skill acquired in such a short time for any useful thing It is just a foundation class as far as I am concerned, and you will need more time and practice before you can garner enough skills that can be actually useful in real-life scenarios. |

Raypawer:Dude am not trying to discourage anybody but the issue I have seen guys who think they can learn programming in a month and parade themselves as programmers and actually believe they know what they are doing. I had this feeling the OP may tow that part and I want him to know the hard truth now. You and I know Nigerians are impatient with learning stuffs like this mostly because they go into it for quick money. I only want him to know the real hard truth the way I was told plainly when I started out. If he has real passion then all the best to him. This is naija where one person thinks he can be a guru in a so very short time. AdmiralDru: mexzony: I beg to differ, I learnt HTML in less than a month, and learnt basic and intermediate MySQL in less than a month. When i was actively learning, whenever there was school strike or any form of holiday, I dedicate like 14-18hrs daily to learn coding. I learn on my own just out of pure passion, I did not even study anything computer science or tech-related at that. That might be the reason that I have been safely able to master over 10 solid programming languages back in the days, and why I became a certified nairaland troll at that. |

dhtml18:Certified Nairaland troll  HTML can be learnt within the time frame I agree and of course one can learn a lot in a month if one studies for 14 hrs like you but what am saying it still won't make one ready for the world the way some ppl I come across think they can be super man within the time frame. I am also learning on my own out of pure passion too but I made sure I have every material to help me as much as possible and invested in any and everything so I do not get distracted but even I knew then that I won't even call my self a programmer even in a months time. I just want to thank you all for your ideas. Actually we did not learn any programming language. We learnt only how to use html to design up to 50 static webpages on our own. I can tell you that am well ground in html/css. I can now design any type of website using html/css without javascript but it will be only static. They are trying to organise another class for us based on javascript,php/mysql. This class will run only for two weeks BY10.00am-3.00pm daily. You can learn javascript in a few hours. But it will take practice and experience to become proficient in it. proficiency would depend on you. |

To learn and know is in one month? Capital [size=14pt]NO![/size] You think you are well grounded in css till you work on a large project and create this gigantic mess of css that isn't scalable and structured, yuck! Knowing css is not about knowing how to apply selectors or font-size, that is the no. 1 level out of 10. JavaScript in one month, you can know how to write a for loop, work with basic array methods, but that doesn't mean you know JavaScript. It would take time. To understand javascript's prototypal inheritance sef alone, then closure, hoisting, asynchrocity, regular expressions, efficient and fast algorithms, data structures... These things would take lots of practice. Especially considering how notorious JavaScript can be compared to other better designed programming languages I am not trying to discourage you, but we have to many quack programmers in Nigeria already, it is not a one month thing and then you are qualified to handle front end projects. Practice, dedication, and overall love for programming. |
