plz gurus in the house what is the difference between padding, margin, layout_margin, and layout_padding?

I shall abuse you o, you posted a question without specifying language.
My language detector shows android sha.

The space between a container and its content is called padding.
The space between the container and its parent is called margin.

Use sample codes to practicalize this.

You need padding inside those list items.

Actually my own understanding of padding is space within element, while margin is space outside an element. Gbam. ........ dtml8, guru01 and other wailers can fall in.

padding: this will give you a spacing...within your element...for instance..you have a text box....the spacing you want to give from the border of your text box (inside of it) is defined with that ,


margin...for this your text box...you want to make a space..between it..and the layout..if you are familiar with all those primary school note books...you will see one vertical .line like that..in red paint..the spacing between it to the left corner of the page is called the margin...just like the spacing you want to define..between your text box and it's layout...which I assume you defined as either wrap_content or fill_parent


. layout_margin: this is the margin you wanna set in your layout...be it for the elements...or layout itself

e.g. <? xml version = "1.0" encoding = "utf-8" ?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android = "http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

android:layout_height = "fill_parent"

for the buttons...you can define your layout_margin to be anything...same goes for the linear layout...
..all about the spacing you wanna give...

you can have multiple layouts ..in your XML...just use it do define your margins



and layout_padding? ..same with layout_margin....but...just inside...while margin is outside
