Travelers May Soon Be Asked For Social Media Details Before Traveling To The US by digitalheadline(m): 5:10pm On Jun 29, 2016
Social networking platforms have been a way by which we connect with friends, locate lost contacts, make new friends and share our opinion on issues that concerns us from every part of the world. While creating an account on any social media platform we often fill a form requesting a few details of you which invariable means a profile of you could be gotten online.

According to reports, if the proposal pulls through, immigrants and foreign travelers coming into the US will be asked provide details of their social media handle.

According to the proposal, one of such question a traveler will be asked on arrival and departure forms would be “social media identifier,” though password is not inclusive. The essence of asking for the social media details is to confirm information provided.

The proposal stated that “Collecting social media data will enhance the existing investigative process and provide the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) greater clarity and visibility to possible nefarious activity and connections by providing an additional tool set which analysts and investigators may use to better analyze and investigate the case.”

The government of United States is looking at social media as a reliable means of getting details of individuals and said the social media platform has been a veritable tool for the spread and recruitment of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The proposed change was published and made available to the public to comment on the issue within 60 days.
